Tho Emily Dickinson was of course not Irish [nor I-Am], her verse, in all its bewildering variety, & its often startling passion & humour, has been an inspiration to many writers - as witness the... poem by Michael Longley, which brings all this on-topic.

Wild Nights
Emily Dickinson

The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson
ed., Thomas H. Johnson
Boston: Little Brown & Co., 1960

Wild Nights -- Wild Nights!
Were I with thee
Wild Nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile - the Winds -
To a heart in port -
Done with the Compass -
Done with the Chart!

Rowing in Eden -
Ah, the Sea!
Might I but moor - Tonight -
In thee!

--- The End ---
