Rare and desirable works by the famous and popular Italian artist Ezio Gribaudo (b. 1929), in his signature logogrifi style of relief print, on bright white buvard Italian handmade paper.

The Bestiario prints are gold and silver foil stamped, but the Butterfly print is unstamped, its design featuring an elaborate in-filled pattern derived from railroad timetables.

Logogrifi is a term that is difficult to translate directly into English, combining the Greek words for word and enigma and evoking the idea of fishnets and objects that are caught in a specific moment in time. These works are based on the engraving of white surfaces, resulting in dazzling white on white compositions that frame memories of daily objects in visual renderings reminiscent of Duchamp’s readymades. Giorgio de Chirico believed that Gribaudo’s logogrifi work elevated the use of white to a new conceptual level.

Bestiario was created only a few years after he first came to fame by winning top prizes at the Biennale of Venice and San Paolo Biennale in 1967. His 1970s editions do not come on the market very frequently.

Mr. Gribaudo is currently president of the Fine Arts Academy of Turin, and his work has been exhibited and celebrated for over 50 years. Within the past few years, he has been honored with shows at Biblioteca Civica A. Arduino Moncalieri, Museo Nazionale d’Abruzzo L’Aquila-Italy, Biennale d’Arte Moderna del Piemonte Verbania, Galleria Arteregina Torino, Galleria 44, and Briggs Robinson Gallery New York.
