I just got a letter back from one of the ------ brothers (Mark and Joe). It seems that he unsubscribed after receiving bushel baskets of obscene hate mail, from people who just couldn't seem to understand that there was more than one person in the over 7 million people in greater Chicago, named Joe. I make a post that somebody is unhappy about, and Joe ------ gets abuse. Gee, that makes sense ? Mr. ----- (and his brother Mark) ask about the rumor that people are being arrested for nudity at Burning Man. (That rumor can be found in the "General Discussion section over at e-playa, if you look). Somebody argues in perfect seriousness that being located next to a cleared patch of dust whimsically given a street name, is the same thing as being visible from a highway, and says, oh, yes, that's true. When I point out that this is really, really silly, and give a few common sense arguments as to why it is really, really silly, your list goes on the attack. Another Dave on the list does a lengthy rant/flame, complaining aBout my alleged desire to defecate in public, and masturbate in front of small children, and then says he's sorry if I took that personally ! Oh, how could I EVER do that ? And then somebody else seriously tries to argue that that over-the-top bit of character assassination wasn't an attack. Meds, Dave ? Your list has gotten into the most powerful drug there is - groupthink - and it is ODing. Either that, or I've never seen a group of people more relucatant to let go of their wish to promote yet another silly rumor, or more supportive of an effort to turn vicious when somebody doesn't play along.
