Subject: Fwd: visual captures, voting, etc. --- In burningcorn@y..., "varian shepherd" wrote: I would like to start off by saying I understand everones point and agree with them all, no one is really making a bad point or horrible request however, I would also like to say that ultimately I do not care. I have no problem with being video taped or photographed or artificially captured in any form known or unknown... and I have no great interest in caputering any one else... my reason for saying that is to clarify that I have no personal motives in voicing my views on this matter... I totaly think that photography and filiming should be allowed uncondiontally at this event, I also feel that no one should be required to ask permission or approval... It seems to me that one strong point or characteristic at these burning events is DO WHAT YOU WANT ... like on the website... 'ever wanted to build a huge bowling alley, ever wanted to play in the mud, ever wanted to build your living room in the woods, ever wanted... etc.' you can do whatever you want really I mean it... even clothing is optional... To me as soon as you say well... shh except taking pictures... cant do that... it is as if you have tainted the very spirit of such burning. So one would say well what is wrong with just asking first... to answer that question... asking is what is wrong.. remember do what you want? as soon as you ask, someone can say no. who cares. do what you want, not to mention that it interupts their experience of doing what they want .. and your own. The way I see it .. as soon as you say you can't take pictures or video taping is forbbidon then someone else can say... well if I can't take pictures then... I dont want to see you naked... it um umm offends me... so there.. and well your music is a little to loud.. i think you shoudl turn it down.. after all i cant have my camera... so majority what do YOU think? is the music too loud..?? come on lets shut him down! Ahhh no that guy is ugly.. "Hey, you! Get your clothes back on!" ..... what do you think... hey lets be fair .. I GOT AN IDEA! LET'S TAKE A VOTE! oh no Now we are living in america again.... you know the land of the free... do what you want? How free do you feel at work? In normal society? Why did you go to burning corn? burning man? If you don't want your picture taken(for any reason)...you probably.. now I can't say for sure as no one can because no one is anyone else but themselves... probably don't really belong there... if you feel you need to restrict someone else's experience because of your own shortcomings or insecurities or ANY OTHER REASON whether real or imagined ... well then you are just like everyone else. you are them. Now at this point I am going to predict that someone will say ... in reality we all know that it is impossible to do what ever you want.. I mean what if someone wants to cause physical harm to someone else or endanger someone ... we can't have that... Of course... but once again... if someone wants to do somehting physicaly threatenign to another person... they don't belong there and they don't understand what is going on.... photographs and videos harm no one... except possibly pride, and if the person who is being photographed is doing something that would ruin their illusion that they are projecting of themselves in society .. .if they are projecting one.. well i don't feel that pride or illusions of one's self have any room at such an event... I also feel that the idea of voting on the subject is horrendous for the idea that what if ohio held a vote as to whether they felt burning corn should happen or not? would you be scared? I would...I really doubt that if the majority of the voters had any idea of what was going on out there they would vote to stop it... Do you want to please most of the people, the majority, or do you want to continue in the spirit from which such things have came? varian --- End forwarded message ---
