In the "why did you choose your name" thread Taylor Fishsticks, apparently scared for his life (insert half a smiley), wrote

"Around the time I found out I could change it" (his login name) "I also figured out that I didn't want Joseph Dunphy or others like him to be familiar with my real name. So I changed it to Taylor Fishsticks and I hope JD doesn't remember my real name" ...

which was easily findable using the e-mail address he registered "Joseph Dunphy ll" under. Visiting the url associated with his e-mail address' domain, I found this to be his corporate page, with his publicly given (and public domained) contact information :

I can't help but wonder what he was afraid that I would do with this information. Crank call him at home the way a few people from e-Playa did to me, last year? (Fun fact : caller ID now works outside one's calling area). Travel down to Chattanooga and "get him"? Or did he just enjoy the idea of being able to indulge in slinging mud at people, in perfect anonymity? Like, say, a few of the local BMORG appointee's friends did on the bm-chicago list, leading me to reply when I heard about this, later :

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bm-chicago/message/1056

I really was intrigued by the news that I had been causing fights during my stay at Blue Light District, because (as I pointed out in the above reply to "Nymph") I've never been to Blue Light District. I can't help but wonder where that rumor got started, but wondering is all that I'm ever going to be able to do, because whoever started this, like Taylor, is a coward who likes to skulk around in the shadows.

What is sad in the burner subculture is not that people like Taylor L. Root / "Taylor Fishsticks" or the still anonymous "Nymph" exist. What is sad is that BMORG encourages their kind of behavior, frequently indulging in it itself, and that people like these two are setting the behavioral norms. I am left with the eternal "burning" question:

" Do you people still remember that you're running a recreational event? "

That may sound flippant, but it's not. It's dead serious. Between the treatment Hermine saw, and the greeting you people gave to Steve Capone when one of his people got ill and needed to sell her ticket to help raise money for hospital costs, and this nonsense, I'm left seriously wondering where the fun is supposed to be in any of this. What I've seen here more resembles a strange cross between corporate ethics and cult politics than anything one would expect to see at an arts festival.

To set Mr. Root's mind (or what passes for it) at ease, no, I'm not going to crank call him. That would be juvenile, and juvenile is what he and his friends on this board are into, not me. I'm not going to travel down to Chattanooga and do something unpleasant to him because unlike some (eg. Lamplighter Brien) I'm not psychotic. But I am going to tell people who he is, because while he may feel otherwise, he does not have the right to engage in libel and defamation of character in safe anonymity. If he wants to continue playing games like that, one of these days he'll try that with the wrong target, and Taylor's going to find himself on the business end of a lawsuit. When that day comes, I'll do my part to make sure that the process server knows the way to Mr. Root's office door.

Enough said, other than to note that, looking over all of the accumulated (and utterly unprovoked) abuse that's been sent my way on this board over the last year and change, I'd like to say "people, get a life!". The only things that I've ever been guilty of on this board have been disagreeing with the regulars and not taking the local pecking order seriously. Grow up and get over it. In real life, people will disagree with you. Adults should not respond to that reality with character assassination.

In case I'm not the only one with a case of perverse curiosity, click here for a copy of the first version of this article I tried to post on e-Playa. (Let us note that the eternally backbiting Mr. Fishsticks seems to have had no such difficulties himself).
