An interesting question. Let us remember that one full year before the
"Summer of Love", Fred Cherry was pushing the argument that the effort to
outlaw prostitution was part of a homosexual plot to bring about a
"PERVERT WORLD" (sic). In fact, he had even claimed to be the victim of
discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, claiming that the
desire to use a prostitute was his sexual orientation, and expressing
great anger when some homosexuals apparently told him to get serious.
Of course, even if we took Fred completely at his word, his wish to
hire a prostitute would still have to be seen as a matter of convenience,
not sexual orientation. But, maybe we shouldn't be so trusting. In the
post linked to above, he claimed to need the services of a prostitute
because of a congenital condition known as "celiac disease". In fact, as
mentioned earlier, he sued to have the law against prostitution in New
York overturned on the basis of its discriminatory impact on him.
But I digress.
The particular victim of Cherry's libel, in this case, had the bad
taste to offer an effective rebuttal to a popular rationalisation for
supporting Fred's favorite institution.
This post "mysteriously" kept being cancelled, and had to keep being
reposted, even though its "Breidbart Index" (insert snort of amused
contempt) was below 20. Now, as a check of Dejanews will reveal, prior
to this post, Cherry mentions its author by name exactly once and in a
spirit of apparent comradery at that. Not without reason - there was a
common cause to rally around. Opposition to the scum at NAMBLA. And here's
the post. Note the lack of references to hominazis, or support for NAMBLA.
In fact, even to neo-nazis of any sort.
Well, this seems a little strange, because some months earlier,
according to Cherry himself, this very same person had made the post that
he was to repeatedly quote (out of context, naturally) to back up his
charge of homonaziism. So, one may ask, why didn't Fred see fit to ever
mention this post before his argument in favor of prostitution was
rebutted?
In this one, the author of the counterargument, having just been
greatly harassed by the regulars on soc.culture.israel (in real life, as
well as on the net), basically tells them to go screw themselves, but in a
way calculated to draw a little blood. Much to his satisfaction, it
did.
The harassment episode that lead to this will be discussed later.
Here, a little over a month after the counterargument was offered,
Cherry is now throwing out the charge that someone is a supporter of
falcor (long before that person had even heard of falcor) and NAMBLA -
some years after the person he so accused had introduced himself to Fred,
by blasting that very organization.
And here is the first example I can find - not so long afterwards - of
Fred Cherry applying the coveted title of "homonazi" to that same
person.
Cherry does make a reference to a post entitled "Fred Cherry : Bigot
and Rapist Wannabee", which I couldn't find a copy of in the archives,
but, yes, it was a real post. Massively crossposted, because it was made
as a followup to one of Fred's posts, using his very own followup line
without trimming. That post was entitled : "The Pink Triangle : Symbol of
My Religion". His complaints have seemed to be that
1. He was labeled a bigot. (Well, duh, take look at his postings in
soc.motss and the other homosexually oriented groups online).
2. The word "rapist" was used in connection with him. (As explained in
the argument already linked to, which appeared in that post, the
institution of prostitution was itself argued to consitute a
form of rape in which economic instead of direct physical coercion
often served to force women into unwanted sexual encounters.
3. He was accused of seeking to purchase sadomasochistic 'literature',
involving underaged women and complaining about the post office's
interception of such material. I seem to recall seeing him mention
wanting to do so and have heard of such a post - but way back in
pre-Dejanews days, unfortunately. The closest he's come since the
establishment of the archive is mentioning wanting to the same,
with "young (adult) ladies". Click here to see him whine about the
post office not letting that through.
I'm still looking for the earlier material, as time allows.
The link above takes us to the latter reference, though, from our
Connoisseur of Porn. Fred, he's a class act all of the way.
