Another book bites the dust.

L.E. Modesitt's "Ghost of the White Nights". This is the third book in his "Ghost" series.

I picked up this book in hardback from a discount store. It is a tale about how an interesting cover, a well written introduction, and a well known author's name can seduce $5 out of my pocketbook.

You can read a synopsis here. It was a decent story. Unfortunately, this is one of those alternative histories where the names of cities and countries are not the same as what they are today. I had only the barest clue as to where the story's characters were located as a result. There is a handy map in the front of the book, but I don't want to read maps; I want to read the book.

This isn't a book I would choose to re-read.....unless I had nothing to do and had already re-read Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" and Tolkein's "Lord of the Rings" within the last month or so.

Another Book Gone

The Tale of the Thunderbolt from EE Knight's Vampire Earth series. As with the first two books, it was a heck of a good story. You don't really need the first two books to understand everything that goes on in this book. But it helps, and the entire series is so good that you wouldn't want to miss them.
