So You Say You Don't Believe We Are Winning??
In listening to this re-broadcast of The Connection on NPR, I was struck by the common themes used by each of the guests. The motivation for this show was the tragic terrorist (we assume - and it now seems likely) bombings in London.
The host of the show, Mr. Dick Gordon, stuck to the liberal media playbook of attempting to portray our campaign in Iraq as being separate from our larger war against terrorism by those that claim to be Islamic fundamentalists.
His guests were of another opinion. They generally saw that our various efforts at home and abroad as being quite effective at immobilizing or diminishing Bin Laden's network. And they generally agreed that to achieve victory, we are going to have to supplant the despotism that is common in the Middle East with democratic, participatory government so that the seeds of terrorism will take root no longer.
There was some modest disagreement on the specifics. There always will be and there always should be. But on the general subject of whether we are winning or losing, the consensus, in my opinion, was that we are winning.
Give it a listen.
