Dann Todd's 'Dain Bramage'**

Noodlings From My Noodle

It's a blog. Thoughts, ideas, and general weirdness that passes through my head and out onto the Internet. The only thing better would be if my brain was hardwired to my computer. Or perhaps Wi-Fi.

The rules for my comments are simple. First, no gutter talk. If that is all you have to offer, then please go elsewhere. Second, no advertisements. Spammers aren't welcome. I will enforce these rules as I see fit. After all, this is my ** Dain Bramage and I have to shelter it and keep it safe, dry, warm and well fed.

Mr. Bush Is A Great Leader??

From the Telegraph newspaper in the UK comes this story [with video] from a guy that is suggesting that George W. Bush is a great leader. Maybe this is supposed to be sarcasm. It is hard to tell with British humour.

From the video but not in the printed text comes the suggestion that being a Rhodes Scholar is nothing more than an opportunity for American college students to have sex with British co-eds. I almost lost a mouthful of coffee at that one.

If he's being honest....rather than sarcastic....then I think he solidly nails Mr. Bush's positive qualities.

More Fauxtography

The mullahs in Iran recently fired off a series of missiles. At least one or two of them were long range missiles.

But they apparently didn't fire off enough missiles. Their solution? Just a little doctoring of their official photos of the event.

The photo in question was published without question by various media outlets after it was released via a website for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. You'd think that with all the skepticism the media expresses towards our own government, that they might be just a little skeptical with respect to other governments. But you would be wrong on that count.

From the comments at the link above...

I love it when 13th century fundamentalists use 21st century software to further their cause....

Honoring Military Service....Sort Of

Congresscritter Tim Mahoney D-FL recently sent out a flyer that supposedly honored those who defend freedom. Included in the flyer was a photo that just didn't fit the purported theme of the piece.

Go take a look for yourself.

Now obviously this is a mistake made by a low level staffer. Someone that didn't have any military experience and thought any medals would suffice. So we get a laugh at Mr. Mahoney's expense.

At the same time, this sort of thing keeps on cropping up. The reason these things happen is because there is a lack of familiarity with all things military. Military veterans appear to be an underrepresented group in the media just as they appear to be underrepresented on Mr. Mahoney's staff.

The change to an all-volunteer military drastically improved the professionalism and performance of the various services. At the same time, it severed the connections from the military to many civilian areas of interest that were the result of the draft.

It would have only taken a few minutes to run the proof for the flyer down the hall to a military liaison officer....if they had thought to have one in the building, or thought that his/her input was worthwhile.

A Spy From Iran

Reza Khalili [a nom de guerre] used to work for the CIA. While he was in Iran in the Revolutionary Guards. He says...

The men who ordered the destruction of the Pan Am flight over Lockerbie and the bombings of the Marine Corps barracks in Lebanon, the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, and the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia are pursuing the nuclear program in Iran and with one goal in mind: to obtain The Bomb.

And they want to destroy you.

After the Iranian Revolution, I was an officer in the Revolutionary Guards. I was also a spy working for the CIA, code name Wally. My position in the Guards gave me access to the Khomeini regime's deep secrets and a firsthand look at the unfolding horror: torture, rapes, executions, assassinations, suicide bombers, training of terrorists, and the transfer of arms and explosives to other countries to support terrorist attacks. I risked my life and my family's trying to expose this regime because I believed it should be stopped. Once again I incur such risks to bring awareness that lack of action endangers the world.

There is more. Much, much more.

Read it and understand. Evil walks in the world. It means us harm. We need to have the strength to oppose it at every turn.

This war won't be neat and tidy. It won't have defined borders and limits. The army we fight won't wear uniforms nor will it adhere to any "rules". It will be long and hard. And losing it has consequences.

**The title for my blog is a bit weird. I took it from a bit on an old Bill Cosby LP. Bill Cosby was a comedian, humorist, and TV star. Still is. An LP was a record. From the days when music came on big, round, black vinyl things. I loved Bill Cosby albums as a kid. I think I hurt something vital once just from the laughter. Thanks, Bill.
