On My Lingering Absence - A Summertime Update
I supposed going over a month without updating a blog is a sure way to lose readers. And when you don't have very many of them.....well getting zero is just that much easier.
As always, life has been busy.
Work had a bad month last month. Not a disastrous month, just a bad one. We're lucky in that we have only had the one really bad month. We are still on track to have a profitable year, but the economy has finally caught up with us.
My part of the office is doing pretty well. We stay busy. Which unfortunately means that I end up with a pile of work on my desk at the end of the day that should have been done before then. But for the other projects that come up every day, it surely would have been done. And so I end up working into the evening at least a few nights a week.
This is a source of frustration.
It is also a source of marital and familial discord.
Also, it is summer in Michigan. You may have heard that the midwest is having a mild summer. That includes Michigan. July has been about 2 to 3 degrees below normal. I don't read much into it, but I do enjoy the "where's the global warming" jokes.
Once a week I play golf in a league with my Dad. Which is another source of frustration, but we enjoy the time together in spite of my lack of ability. One day I will become a sub-50 golfer!! Just not any day in 2009.
I have managed to get in some fishing with a couple of my sons. That has been a fun time. Although I would like to catch more fish....bigger fish...more bigger fish. And you can't do that from the shore.
Which brings up the mention of a little trip I took with a friend from work last week. He and I and another friend of his paddled kayaks across a couple of area lakes and down one of the tributaries of the Grand River. My muscles were sore for a few days, but I am hooked. I have been talking about getting a canoe for a couple of years, but I am going to get a kayak instead. I hope to have a trip report soon.
I also have a trip report pending from a little trip that Shelly and I took to the Flint Institute of Art. They have a display of Dale Chihuly's "Seaforms" art along with a second display of artwork from various artists that work in glass. Chihuly's art is predominantly blown glass pieces. That was a great trip. We had a really pleasant time. I have a few photos to share.
Shelly and I have both gotten Facebook accounts. I do not enjoy MySpace. It has far too much garbage associated with it. Lots of music, large images, and other applications that simply don't perform very well on our very slow dial up connection. Facebook is a different story. While there are a lot of meaningless applications that I don't use, it is also a very good way to update lots of people with all of your activities. I have reconnected with a ton of people from high school as well as a few of my friends from the Marine Corps.
So if you have a Facebook account, please look me up. [Dann Todd - can't miss me, I'm the guy in the black shirt with the hot babe looking over my shoulder]
Facebook is where I post less political and more personal stuff. So if you find my politics unpleasant, perhaps that might be more your speed.
Not a lot of quilting going on. I have a project to work on, but lots of other things have been keeping me busy.
I hope you summer is also going well, dear readers. Or is that 'reader'? Hello? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?
