Another Good Read
My beloved bride and I stopped by the library the other day. She was looking for the first two books in a series.
I found "Midwinter" by Matthew Sturges. It was quite an enjoyable read. There is nothing better than elves wandering in the winter wilds on a quest.
Except when it involves flying cities. That makes it better.
And queens that seem to live forever, but are mysteriously weakened every hundred years. That is even better yet.
And a human scientist who's only apparent value to the plot is the discovery of gasoline. I believe I specified that this was an enjoyable read, not a great literary treasure.
The feature that attracted me most was the running theme of the difference between faith and loyalty. The redemption of a fallen Captain of the Royal Guard also being attractive plot feature for me. Did I mention the elves? Wandering? Quest? Winter Wilds? What else could a reader want?
Mr. Sturges has previously worked on producing comic books for several publishers. This is his first crack at writing a book without pictures to accompany the text. His website isn't working at the moment.
