When confronted with this citation, the elders had no immediate answer, deciding later to declare us heretical based on their interpretation of the Scriptures, and refuse us refuge in this part of the doctrinal statement. Clearly, they don't truly believe this point of their doctrine.
Taken to its logical conclusion, their actions lead to a lock-step, "check-your-brain-at-the-door", anti-intellectual Christianity, where no one may differ with the (self-)appointed leaders.
