Re: scanning error

This sounds like your dupework.mdb file has been corrupted.  Please send me the file and I'll take a look.

The Dupework.mdb file is only used during duplicate scanning, so you should be able to simply overwrite the file with the version that is in the Mp3.exe file (rename dupework.mdb first, then open mp3.exe with Winzip and extract Dupework.mdb).

Just in case, send me the "away from the sun.mp3" file so I can see if there is any problem.

Re: scanning error

What version of MP3-Boss are you running with?

Please send me a copy of the Dupework.mdb next time you see the problem.

Do you have a file named Dupework_Backup.mdb, Dupework_1.mdb, or datalink.mdb?  If you do, please send them to me.

Any problems seen when running duplicate checking?

Re: scanning error

Please send me the file that caused the Access error.

So far, the only Access crash error I've seen is a result of a DLL I use -- I just got a "release candidate" of that DLL from the developer -- and it looks like the problem is fixed.

I have an idea as to what caused the dupework.mdb corruption -- please send me your datalink.mdb file.

Re: scanning error

Was it an error that required you to close MP3-Boss, or was it an error that would let you continue?

Thanks for your copy of datalink.mdb.

Do you also have copies of Dupework_Backup.mdb or Dupework_1.mdb (maybe in your mp3boss\backup directory)?

Any idea what you were doing just before you got the Dupework.mdb corruption?  Is there any chance that your hard drive has errors?  Dupework is used both for duplicate scanning, and also to hold a temporary table during scanning.

Re: scanning error

What is the date/time stamp on your DUPES.MDB file?  Could you also send that file to me?

Thanks

Re: scanning error

7/28 10:10 am

sent files

version .631

well recently i moved all files from my 750 gb seagate to a new 750 gb western digital the seagate started going bad not sure if ill ever buy another seagate. the wd is brand new and shows no errors since i didn't use mp3boss to move files i had to rescan whole drive it was taking for ever no not hours days i think it was up to about 35 passes so i figured it must be stuck as the drive only has about 110000 songs on it. and the count in the mp3 list was over well over that anyhow that was on 7/29 i saw your update and loaded it on 8/4 as from 7/29 to 8/4 it still had not completed scan got several of those other errors above and usually hit ignore

some place along the line i ran the full install and selected new databse right now it has been scanning since last night it is on pass 6 of 9 and has abot 80000 files in mp3list so i am hoping this time it completes with out error

Re: scanning error

One problem that I found was that datalink.mdb was an old version.

I think datalink.mdb is only used when data.mdb can't be found and when compacting...but maybe that was part of the problem.  This will be fixed next revision.

I'm also making sure that DUPES.MDB is the correct version -- it is used to recreate DUPEWORK.MDB when needed, and if it was corrupted, maybe that is why your dupework.mdb kept getting corrupted.

Are you scanning with MusicIP enabled?  If MusicIP is off, a fast computer should scan between 40K - 400K files per day, so it sounds like your full install is working.

With MusicIP ON, the scan rate could plummet to around 4K files per day...if none of your files have tags and if those files aren't already in the MusicIP database.  My experience is that only 10% of files don't have any tags...so more typically you'll find the scan rate at 10K - 100K files scanned per day.

I plan to add more intelligence to MusicIP scanning -- so it waits to scan those files at the end.  Since sometimes it can require 60s for the MusicIP database to return...it really makes sense to scan the tagged songs first.

Let me know how the rest of the scan goes.

Re: scanning error

I still haven't been able to figure this one out -- but I'm also in the process of moving...so my normal development computer isn't available.  I'll take another serious look at this in 2 weeks once I get that computer back.

Any further details?  Anybody else seeing this?

Re: scanning error

Have you checked your Windows system event log to make sure that the problem isn't a hard-disk read error?

Re: scanning error

Please send me your mp3boss.log file -- that will contain additional information.

Is the file/folder actually there (for instance, was the file moved or deleted after scanning was started, before the file had a chance to be scanned)?

Thanks,
John
