Re: new problem md5filechunk

I am able to scan the files here (using v0.633).  I'll recreate your directory structure and see if that might do something...

Is it possible that you were running out of memory?

Was the screen refreshing OK?

Re: new problem md5filechunk

Was it scanning across the network?  Could the network have gone down for a few seconds?

Re: new problem md5filechunk

If you have a mp3boss.log file, please send it to me.

It would be great if you install the v0.633 beta (I plan to change it to the official release this weekend).  For upgrades, there was a problem with earlier versions that if you were overwriting the database during a scan -- an earlier version of the DATA.MDB format might replace the new version.  This is fixed in v0.633.

Re: new problem md5filechunk

What was the exact error message.

The trapped error should have been:

MD5FileChunk & <Err.Description>
While processing:  & <Filename>

...but I just looked in the code, and it clears the error description before displaying it!

I'll create v0.634 that fixes this problem.  Also, instead of displaying the messagebox, I'll write the message to the log and to the error box in scan.

I've posted v0.634 as the beta test -- it reports the md5filechunk error correctly, and should also write the error to a LOG file.

web.newsguy.com/mccaffjt/beta/mp3boss.zip
web.newsguy.com/mccaffjt/beta/mp3.exe

Re: new problem md5filechunk

OK -- I'm doing some scan testing here.

Is it giving you an error for EVERY file?  Do you have unicode directory names?

Please send me the log file -- I'm not sure if it is named MP3Boss.LOG or NewTest.LOG, but it should be in your MP3Boss directory.

Re: new problem md5filechunk

I'm not sure why, but I think the problem may be that the routine is calculating the shortname of the file that is already in shortname format.  The only question is why that would cause a problem for you but not me (I'm running WinXP Pro).

I've changed the MD5 routine so that it doesn't recalculate the shortname -- hopefully that will help.  At least with the LOG file, I can track what is happening.

The new beta (v0.635) will be available within the hour.

Thanks for your help & patience!

Re: new problem md5filechunk

I've posted v0.635 as the beta test -- it no longer calculates a shortfilename for md5filechunk, and fixes a minor problem with updating datalink.mdb.

Re: new problem md5filechunk

It looks like maybe your system-specified temporary directory doesn't exist.

If you open a command prompt and type:
SET

you'll see something like:
TEMP=C:\DOCUME~1\John\LOCALS~1\Temp

Does that directory exist?

Re: new problem md5filechunk

Control Panel/System/Advanced/Environment Variables (button near the bottom)

...if you don't see TEMP in user variables (top box), then set it with NEW:

Variable Name: TEMP
Variable Value: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp

Also, in System Variables (bottom box), you should have
Variable Name: TEMP
set to something like

Variable Value: %SystemRoot%\TEMP

Let me know what happens.  I wonder how come you don't have that set?

If this fixes the problem, I'll make sure I perform a startup check to verify that TEMP is set correctly.

Re: new problem md5filechunk

Of course you're right -- you type SET to see the info.  I guess I just do it automatically...sorry about that.  I've changed the info in the above post to make it correct.

That still leaves us with what might be wrong...what is very strange is that the CRC32 is calculated using almost identical starting commands (and is done immediately before the MD5 calculation).

I'll add some additional debugging to the next revision -- this is a very strange problem.

What is your operating system -- WinXP?

Is anyone else seeing this???

Re: new problem md5filechunk

tjc,

I created a special v0.636 for you -- it is identical to v0.635 except it adds some information to the error log so I'll know exactly what line is causing the problem.
