Right now...my list is a measly 5K songs...because I'm always re-scanning during development.  The most I've had is about 30K songs (if I scan all my CDs).

John,
On my home pc, I have a 400GB drive with about 72K mp3's.  I am about to run out of room, so I plan on using a second drive to start adding too.
On a different PC, I have around 100K mp3s (multiple drives).........but there I have had issues with hard drive crashes, corrupt files etc....a lot of duplicates etc....On each PC, I still get the scan errors of:

Get_Files Error!
(6) Overflow
Abort, Retry, Ignore?

No matter what I press it never does finish.
The only thing it tells me is that it stopped on the Last Directory D:\Artist\

Any ideas?

How much memory do you have in the computer?  How many files do you scan at once?  Does it seem to stop at the same place every time -- any possibility it is a specific file (if so...send it to me)?

It never tells me a specific file, it only tells me which directory and it just stops.  I have tried to remove that directory out of the scan, and it just appears to stop at the very next alphabetical directory.  I scan anywhere from 15k to 70K at a time.
Any other suggestions?

My pc spex are:

Are you using the newest beta, or the release version?

Is it possible that there is more than 1GB in a directory?

0.602 is the version I have.
If you mean more than one GB in a folder I am sure there is a few cases where that is true.

Could you see if maybe the error only happens when there is more than 2GB in the folder?

The error relates to an overflow -- probably a value greater than a long (maximum 2,147,483,642)

I downloaded a utility that shows the folder size in the explorer view, I then copied all folders over 2GB out of the scan area, and I still get the same error?

Is the error every in a directory that has only a few files, or does it always happen in directories with lots of files?

If you scan only a directory or two at a time (always a total of less than 2GB of new files)...does that fix the problem?

Same issue here, I just deleted the database and started a new scan. I'll post the exact error when I get it. Running ver .57
64,731 files in 6512 folders, 413g of space used.

Anymore results?

Is it possible that a drive has run out of space?   Is there anything strange about the mp3boss directory or its subdirectories (like the pictures directory - maybe too many files there?).

Hi John,
Sorry for the delayed reply....
No new results here for me.  Same error :-(
I spread my collection across 3 200GB Western Digital hard drives, still same result of:
"Get_Files Error!
(6) Overflow
Abort, Retry, Ignore?"

If I choose abort, it says "completed processing" for the window title.
The text in the window reads Completed processing 1 files.  All I can do is press OK, and nothing happens after that....
If I press ignore or retry, nothing happens.

I know I have more the 2GB in certain directories, but those are not the ones it stops on.  Remember, it does show me what directory it stops on, but not a certain file that causes the error?

I have 97,074 files now

I think I finally found the problem -- if more than 32767 files total, an integer value counter probably overflows.  I hope I've fixed this in v0.604.

Wow John,
I will be more than happy to beta test that one....!!!

One thing I would not mind seeing changed is when I scan all the mp3 directories I have, It would be nice if I did not get the pop up "ok" box about 15,000 songs.  No offense, but for folk with larger collections, it is a bit of an annoyance.  I am some what computer savy, so I know it will be intensive on the cpu...I typically start a scan, and walk away from the pc.  When I come back, I see that 15000 file ok box come up, and of course the scan did not go through completely.
Is there a box where that can be disabled for all future scans coming out?

Thanks again for all the great support!

I guess I figured that because the box comes up before the actual scan starts, that it wouldn't matter if the dialog popped up (particularly if you have the default setting that has you identify the directories with files to be scanned).

But...you are right that if you don't have "Review directories" checked...then it makes sense to simply hide that dialog.

How about if I do that...don't show the 15K popup unless "Review directories" is checked?

That would be great!  Or add the option saying do not show this again?

I'm thinking that perhaps I'll just show the message in the "Last Error:" region on the form.  That way...you'll never have to click OK for the message.

Sound OK?

For v0.604, I needed to update a library that I use -- and it changes a lot.  Also, once I started adding WMA & OGG -- lots of new fields, and I'm not sure how best to arrange the tables to use these new fields (keep them in MAIN, or separate WMA and OGG tables?).  Because of this, it is taking longer for v0.604.

v0.6202 supports scanning up to 99,999 files at one time.  The next release will support scanning up to 9,999,999 files at once (10 million - 1 files!).

I actually have the same problem. Keep us posted about updates on how I can do some troubleshooting myself. Every idea will be really helpful.
