MP3 Scanning Error

I am scanning new songs and have received the following error. I tried moving the failing MP3 file to another directory and the problem just moved to the next file.

(3163) The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add.  Try inserting or pasting less data.
DAO.Field
M:\A New\ELP\elp - emerson lake and palmer - take a pebble.mp3

It happens just after the Directory review, it enters the next section of the scan and receives the error.  I just downloaded the latest version .603 but I have not scanned a song in a few months so it may not be caused by the latest update.

I an running on Windows XP.

Re: MP3 Scanning Error

Please send me one of the files.

Sounds like you must have a 'collection' of files that have a new field that is longer than I thought -- probably the ID3v2 Copyright field...which according to the specification should be 5chars in the ID3v2 tag...but I just found one today that was about 50characters long (and I only allow 25chars!).

Re: MP3 Scanning Error

May not be the V2 copyright.   I use Tag & Rename.  I entered a 26 char copyright (a thru 'z').   I then scanned directory containing file to MP3B without a problem.

cheers

P.s.  I checked your ID3v2 Table.  In field.ID#_TCOP it contains ID3_TCOP:
"abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxy"

Re: MP3 Scanning Error

Funny about ID3_TCOP -- in my ID3v2 table (in DATA.MDB), the size definition is 25chars...and that means that it can't hold more than 25chars.  Can you check the table (in Access) and see the field properties?

I definitely would like the file:
M:\A New\ELP\elp - emerson lake and palmer - take a pebble.mp3

...so I can figure out which field is the problem.

Re: MP3 Scanning Error

You are right.  Field properties is 25 text.  Mp3B truncated the z off the end when it scanned.  But it did not error out or have any problem when it did so.

Another Question:  When the file was scanned, the v1 genre field was blank, but the v2 field was filled.   Yet MP3B took v1 blank.   So, should we expect MP3B to select v1 or v2 tag data?

Re: MP3 Scanning Error

You are right about the copyright tag -- it must be another field that I don't check.

Normally mp3-boss will use the ID3v2 tag in preference to ID3v1.

It should use the ID3v1 data if the ID3v2 tag is blank -- but maybe it wasn't really blank?  My guess is that probably there are a bunch of chr(0) chars that confused the problem.  Could you send me the file & I'll take a look?

..by the way, you can get MP3-Boss to IGNORE the ID3v2 data by selecting "Ignore ID3v2" in the configuration.
