GROVEPORT, OH -- A commercial coin washer that can decrease operating costs through water and energy saving features has been created by Staber Industries.
The Staber System 2000 uses half the water of an average washing machine -- about 12 gallons vs. 32 gallons for standard washers. With less hot water to heat, it saves energy, too.An electronic timer detects suds levels and prevents damage from over-sudsing.
The top loading tumble action design has no center agitator which means more laundry can be placed in one load. Instead of a round tub, the Staber System 2000 uses a patented stainless steel eight-sided pouter tub with a rotating six sided inner bin that tumbles laundry down repeatedly into a bottom pool of water. This creates a pumping action that forces water through the clothes basket to clean more effectively than circular tubs.

BURKE, VA -- Kleerwite Chemical has introduced SMARTCare, a new way to wetclean khakis, Dockers, polo shirts, and other garments that you used to dryclean.
SMARTCare is an all-in-one wetcleaning detergent, conditioner, and sizing. The detergent rinses out of the clothes, but the conditioner and sizing stay behind. Instead of feeling hard and stiff with a lot of wrinkles, khakis come out of the dryer soft, like they were drycleaned, with hardly any wrinkles. Because the sizing stays in, khakis and other garments press very easily and finish with a crisp new feel.
SMARTCare is an all-in-one product, so different products don't need to be added at different times during the wash cycle.

RICHMOND, KY -- The National Association of Institutional Linen Management (NAILM) has released the latest edition of its "Laundry Operations Guidelines." The guidelines have been updated since the previous 1997 version.
Adherence to the guidelines is voluntary, however textile service providers that follow them demonstrate their professionalism by undergoing a continuous self-evaluation of their performance.
The guidelines cover 10 areas to help managers determine if their laundry operation is efficient and cost effective. Included in the areas are systems acquisitions, space requirements, staffing and productivity, utility and energy needs and cost guidelines.
The type, size and geographic location of most laundries will be the factors determining which guidelines are applicable to a particular operation, NAILM said.
All NAILM members receive a free copy of the guidelines. Extra copies are available through the NAILM national office for a small fee. Non-members may also purchase the booklet through the national office.

ST. PAUL, MN -- Two products have been added to the low-temperature shirt laundry line from the Textile Care Division of Ecolab.
The company introduced the EXEC 120° Low Temp One-Shot shirt detergent last year and now is bringing out a sour and starch to complete the line.
The buffered sour agents helps protect fabrics and colors by controlling pH at 6.5. It neutralizes bicarbonates and eliminates yellowing due to residual alkalinity. A wetting agent provides faster penetrating action and a last rinse brightens whites and brings out the brilliance in colors.
The instant dry starch can be added dry to the wheel at levels for the desired body and finish of the garment. It disperses rapidly into the solution and adds an absorbent finish for soil resistance.
The Exec 120° powders are packaged in compact, 45-pound recyclable boxes. An optional rack raises the box of the floor to keep contents dry.
