A helping hand from Europe
In December we
reported on a program started
by German drycleaner Hans von Korff to raise money to assist children who lost
parents in the September 11 destruction of the World Trade
Center. Von Korff’s invited children to bring in their
stuffed animals for cleaning, asking a donation of $1.15 for
each one cleaned. All the money raised was to be directed to a
charity that would help the New York children. In the photo,
Hans and his wife, Dagmar, pose with an oversized Teddy Bear
that was used to help promote the drive at von Korff’s
plant in Meschede. The campaign raised about $2,500 and, with
the help of Gerald Lieberman of B & G Lieberman in North
Carolina and Victoria Aviles of Bridge Cleaners in New York,
the money found its way to the Independence Community
Foundation, which is providing direct assistance to the
victims’ families.
