In the world of drycleaning,
exhibitions are serious business

In the world of sports, the word “exhibition” means very little, but in the world of drycleaning, exhibition trade shows help keep the industry thriving.
This month begins the first in a series of 11 shows, including seven in the United State, that will permeate throughout the U.S. and the international cleaning market.
Right around the corner is Lava Expo Mexico 2002, scheduled for March 13-15 at the Expo Santa Fe Mexico Fairground in Mexico City. In all, the show will cover a variety of topics with 24 planned lectures, including a couple from National Clothesline columnist Stan Caplan who will discuss “The Science of Spotting” and “Steps in Proper Shirt Finishing.”

Next on the trade show calendar will be the North East Fabricare Association's Image ’02 from March 23-24 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, RI. The convention hotel, the Providence Westin, is offering a room rate of $149 per night for convention attendees who call (800) WESTIN-1 and mention NEFA. Full registration for the show, which includes admission to a diversification panel discussion and seminars by Ted Barry, Laurie Wilson and Chris Allsbrooks, costs $100 per person. Three trade shows are scheduled for next month, beginning with the Southwest Drycleaners Association’s Big Show 2002 from April 12-14 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX. IFI’s Allsbrooks will make a presentation at this show, too, along with guest speakers Jan Hargrave and IFI CEO Bill Fisher. The St. Anthony Hotel offers a room rate of $129 per night for single/double occupancy. Reservations can be made by calling (210) 227-4392. On the same dates, April 12-14, Clean Canada will take place at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. The show’s exhibiting hours will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 12, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14.
Guest speakers will include J.P. Viau, CEO of Lakeshore Linen Services, and industry consultant Chris Tebbs. Admission to the show is free to attendants 16 years and older who pre-register prior to March 29 by calling (416) 695-0309. The following weekend, April 19-21, the Michigan Institute of Laundering and Drycleaning will present its Great Lakes Expo at Eastern Michigan University’s Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, MI. Speakers slated to present seminars include Everett Childers, Norm Oehlke and John Agno. MILD is offering a comprehensive early registration package for $99 per person prior to April 10.

Texcare Asia 2002 will be coming to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong from May 9-11. The program will feature speakers from all over the world covering a wide array of topics, including an in-depth TCA Laundry and Drycleaning Operations Workshop on Friday, May 10.

From Aug. 2-4, the South Eastern Fabricare Association will present its 2002 Southern Drycleaners Show at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center in Savannah, GA. The California Cleaners Association will unfurl its Fabricare 2002 show Aug. 23-25 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, CA. From Sept. 21-22, the Pennsylvania and Delaware Cleaners Association will host its Drycleaning and Laundry Expo 2002 at the Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City, NJ. This year’s exhibit hall schedule will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22.
