Childers heads MILD’s list of guest speakers
The Michigan Institute of Laundering and Drycleaning will be gathering together a wide array of guest speakers for its 2002 drycleaning and laundry conference scheduled from April 19-21 at the Eastern Michigan University at the Convocation Center at 799 Hewitt Road in Ypsilanti, MI.
The education will kick off early in the program. Following a three-hour opening reception and cocktail party on Friday night, Everett Childers will deliver a keynote address on “The State of the Industry” at 8 p.m.
Childers, the author of The Master Drycleaner’s Notebook, is a successful consultant to the industry who once taught Small Business Management as head of the Drycleaning and Laundry Department at Oklahoma State University.
More educational sessions are planned for Saturday morning, beginning with “The Best of Customer Relations,” presented by Norm Oehlke at 8 a.m.
Oehlke will call on his lifetime of experience and learning in the industry to offer a perspective on how to avoid the dangers of poor customer service.
Another seminar, entitled “Don’t Let the Good Ones Get Away,” will follow at 9 a.m. It will be presented by John Agno, a management coach who will share his proven techniques on how to keep good employees from leaving.
After the morning programs, the exhibit hall will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. MILD also has planned a cocktail reception later in the evening at 6 p.m. and a President’s Gala at 7 p.m.

Following the presentation, the exhibit hall will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Monticello chosen as MILD Executive Director
After a long search conducted by both present and past leaders of the Michigan Institute of Laundering and Drycleaning, the association recently named Louis M. Monticello as its new executive director.
“In many ways this was a long time coming,” said MILD President Greg Watkins. “Lou was the right person for our association at the right time.”
Until recently, Monticello served as director of environmental and regulatory affairs at the Michigan Chemistry Council. In all, he has more than 12 years of experience in working with associations.
“I began my career in the association sector while still a student in college, at the bottom of the ladder processing claims in a self-funded health insurance program for a statewide trade association,” said Monticello, a graduate of Davenport University in Lansing, MI. “I have always believed that to effectively lead any business, be it an association or a corner store, one must have experience in all facets of the business... I have built my career towards this type of opportunity.”
Originally from New York, Monticello has lived in Lansing since 1976. His wife, Suzanne, is a meeting planner for a statewide professional society. They have a three-year-old daughter named Krystina.
Though he only recently started in his new position, Monticello is excited by the possibilities. “I have a lot of ideas for programs and services, making the MILD membership the most valuable investment in the fabric care industry today.”
Monticello can be reached at the MILD office by calling (517) 337-2909, or by e-mail at:    monticello@mildmi.org.
