Laidlaw’s Achin to lead seminars
A wetcleaning seminar presented by the Laidlaw Corporation will come to  Massachusetts on May 6. Laidlaw will host the Tuesday class from 6 to 9 p.m. Many questions will be addressed in the allotted three hours, including: Are you still drycleaning your Dockers?; Do you know how to control shrinkage and dye bleeds?; Why is wetcleaning so successful and popular today?; and Do I need different spotters?
Beginning spotting will be the topic of discussion at a two-night class held by the Laidlaw Corp. on Wednesday and Thursday, May 8 and 9, at the Fabricare House in Norwell, MA, at Champion Cleaners in Marlboro, MA.His focus will be the ten commandments of spotting. He will also discuss the sins of the spotting board, as well as how to identify stains, how not to set stains, and understanding acids and alkalis.

NCA updates educational schedule with new seminars
It’s going to be a busy year for drycleaners in New York. The Neighborhood Cleaners Association has announced several upcoming seminars and activities throughout the state.
NCA Executive Director Nora Nealis will present a free session to members on “Counter Training” from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7. It will take place at the Holiday Inn at Exit 8 on I-84 in Danbury, CT. Non-members must pay $75 to attend.
A seminar on “Wedding Gowns” by Ann Hargrove will follow on May 19 at NCA’s New York School of Drycleaning at 252 W. 29th St. The class meets from 8: 30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and costs members $150 and non-members $195.
NCA will also host various “Pricing For Profit” seminars throughout New York on May 7, May 21, May 23 and June 6. The location and time of each session is still to be determined.
Alan Spielvogel will instruct a class on “Equipment Maintenance” at the New York School of Drycleaning from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 9. Cost is $150 for members and $195 for non-members.
Further down the road on June 18, another “Pricing For Profit” seminar will run from 9 to 10 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn at 560 Main Ave. off of Route 7 in Norwalk, CT. Attendance is free to members; non-members must pay $75 each.
Another session on “Counter Training” by Nora Nealis is scheduled to take place at the Marriott Hotel on 1 Orms St. in Providence, RI, on June 20. The seminar, free to all NCA members, starts at 8 p.m. and lasts for about two hours.
In August, NCA hopes to offer some fun outings, as well. On Aug. 2, the association will host its 4th Annual Mets Game and Picnic Outing at Shea Stadium when the New York Mets take on the defending world champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Also in August, NCA will host an Open Golf Tournament at Bethpage State Park in Long Island, NY. Cost for the event, which takes place on Aug. 21, is $100 per player and includes green fees, cart, dinner and awards.
