IFI certification tests, upcoming
courses
Cleaners interested in taking the October
5 certification exams must register by August 15.
Exams for three professional
certifications — Certified Professional Drycleaner (CPD),
Certified Professional Wetcleaner (CPW), and Certified
Environmental Drycleaner (CED) — are administered at
test sites around the U.S. by Professional Testing Corporation,
an independent testing organization.
The CPD and CPW exams are $295 for IFI
members and $395 for non-members; the CED exam is $175 for IFI
members and $275 for non-members, and is also available in
Korean. A self-study guide is included. For more information

Upcoming courses
Drycleaners will have plenty of
opportunities to improve upon their craft in the coming months
at the International Fabricare Institute’s Educational
Center, located at 12251 Tech Rd. in Silver Spring, MD.
A three-day stain removal course featuring
instruction on fabrics, tools, equipment, agents and removal
procedures will meet from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from June 12-14.
Another stain removal class will take place from Sept. 16-18.
Tuition is $299 for members and $449 for
non-members.
IFI also offers a five-day
“Introduction to Cleaning” course geared towards
helping employees and plant owner/managers with less than a
year of production experience in the industry. Among the topics
covered are: fibers and fabrics; cleaning processes for perc
and hydrocarbon; assembly and invoicing; cleaning machine parts
and functions; cleaning and drying cycles; beginning stain
removal and finishing.
The course meets from July 29-Aug. 2, and
later in the year from Oct. 21-25. Cost is $450 for members and
$695 for non-members.
A two-week advanced course is available
for those who have completed the introductory course. Some of
the topics covered by course include: speciality fabrics and
fiber identification; advanced stain removal and bleaches;
customer service; business practices and techniques; and
regulatory requirements.
The course meets from Aug. 5-16 and Oct.
28-Nov. 5. Tuition is $900 for members and $1,390 for
non-members.
