Speakers set for PDCA’s Expo 2002 show set in Atlantic City
The Pennsylvania and Delaware Cleaners Association has announced the speakers for its Drycleaning and Laundry Expo 2002, set for Sept. 21-22 at the Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City, NJ.
Booth sales are currently underway for the free exhibit, which will be the largest in the country this year.
The event will kick off on Saturday, Sept. 21 with William Fisher, Chief Executive Officer of the International Fabricare Institute, who will discuss how he sees the industry today.
Nationally-known speaker Jan Hargrave will follow, talking about ways to determine if an employee, a customer or a salesperson is telling the truth. She will present a lively demonstration of the body language that conveys what a person is really thinking.
Sunday’s program will feature Mike Achin, regional sales manager of Laidlaw Corporation, who will give practical information on what he terms the “ten commandments and seven deadly sins of stain removal.” He will be followed by consultant Darcy Moen who will tie things together by telling the audience creative and innovative ways to make their businesses grow.
After his presentation, Abe Cho of Satec USA will follow the theme with a Korean-language program on increasing success in the cleaning industry.
Advance registrations are now being accepted. Full registration for both day’s programs and a Saturday cocktail reception is $45. The exhibit is free.

Garment claim law in MD stalls
Contrary to earlier indications, Maryland’s H.B. 118 will not become a law after all, according to the MidAtlantic Association of Cleaners.
The bill would have added language to Maryland’s Artisans Lien statute pertaining to the disposal of pre-paid garments.
However, MAC reported in its current newsletter that no changes to the law will take effect this year. Previously, it had appeared that the bill would be passed on time when the Senate agreed to pass it with some amendments added by the association just prior to the end of the last legislative session.
All that changed when H.B. 118 returned to the House of Delegates with the Senate-approved amendments, the Speaker failed to bring the bill back to the floor for a vote that would approve the concurrent changes. Thus, the bill never completed the legislative process.
