Compressor efficiency
FREDERICKSBURG, VA —  A guide to understanding and measuring the cost of generating compressed air is available from Kaeser Compressors, Inc.
The guide explains the factors that affect efficiency in the compressed air system and outlines steps to increase the efficiency of existing systems.
For example, the guide shows that in 125 hp applications, the annual cost of electrical power to drive compressors can be twice the cost of the compressor unit. Over a 10-year period, a compressor that costs $40,000 can accumulate up to $800,000 in electrical power costs.

Automated drop off and pick up
KENILWORTH, NJ — White Conveyors has introduced its 24-hour Automated Dry Cleaner (ADC) system that reduces the need for counter attendants and opens opportunities for establishing drop-off and pick-up points at a new location.
white auto-08.tif
The system can be installed in corporate office parks, apartment complexes, commuter train locations and other high-density traffic areas. Apartments and office complexes may provide rent-free locations so they can offer on-site drycleaning service as a perk for their tenants.
To use the ADC system, customers log on with a credit card, debit card or drycleaner-issued VIP card or PIN number, fill out an item-description ticket, place soiled clothes and the ticket in a drycleaning bag and place the bag into a drop drawer. The system prints two receipts — one to be placed in the drop bag and the other for the customer’s records.
To pick up garments, customer log onto the system, select “pick up” from the screen menu and the system prints a customer receipt. Garments are then delivered to the pick-up door.
The system will have an optional customizable enrollment feature that lets users set up an account on their first visit by filling out a short application which is then placed in the bag with their garments.
For security, the ADC system is constructed of stainless steel and special high-strength security glass. The pick-up window features a double door — the inner vestibule door closes when the outside door opens — to prevent unauthorized access to garments. The drop-off and pick-up doors close automatically after 20 to 30 seconds.
The basic system is designed to accommodate 160 to 200 orders but it can be expanded with modular adds-ons. It is also designed to go up, down and around corners. The conveyor can operate at 800 to 1,600 cycles per day, which is higher than the 160 to 200 per day required at automated pick-ups stations, making the system durable and reliable.
The company believes that most drycleaning businesses can recover the cost of the standard configuration unit in one to one and a half years through lower labor costs. The system is factory installed and has a one year standard warranty along with a choice of extended warranty programs.
