Southern Drycleaners Show set for Aug. 3-4
in Savannah
The South Eastern Fabricare Association’s 2002 Southern Drycleaners Show is just
around the corner. The event, hosted at the Savannah
International Trade & Convention Center at One
International Drive in Savannah, GA, is scheduled to take place
from Aug. 3-4.
Opening remarks by International Fabricare
Institute President Lang Houston will kick off the event at 8
a.m. on Saturday morning. Afterward, IFI CEO Bill Fisher will
be on hand to present “Can We Survive? YES WE CAN!”
Fisher’s hour-long discussion will include his personal
view on where the industry has been, where it is now, and where
it will be going in the future.
Also on Saturday, a second seminar by
drycleaning expert Norm Oehlke will run from 9 to 10 a.m.
Oehlke served as a fabric analyst and consumer relations
coordinator for IFI for several decades.
The topic of the seminar will be
“The Front Counter.” It will focus on the physical
and verbal actions of counter people, as well as what customers
have come to expect in terms of service. A warm body that
accepts and distributes orders isn’t enough anymore.
Instead, Oehlke believes plant owners and managers should
answer this question: “Are your personnel responding to
your customers’ needs?”
On Sunday morning at 8 a.m., Dr. Sandy
Seay, Jr., president of Seay Management Consultants, will speak
on the topic of “How to Deal With Difficult
Employees.” Dr. Seay has a bachelor’s degree
from Virginia Tech, a master’s degree from Rollins
College, and a Ph.D. in humanities from Warnborough University
in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Seay’s hour-long session will
reveal ways to motivate employees so that they will respond
favorably to management. It will also explain look at how to
deal with employees who do not respond at all.
Rounding out Sunday’s schedule is
“Home Delivery and Route Services” by Rex Carrigan,
owner of Carrigan Consulting. Beginning at 9 a.m., the seminar
will focus on how to sell to new customers and build value with
existing customers by driving and managing delivery routes
properly. Carrigan has over 40 years of sales experience,
including 11 with the Grand Old Opry and 25 in the medical
supply industry. He also worked as a plant manager and general
manager for White Way Cleaners in Nashville, TN, for 14 years.
Kenney Slatten, a.k.a. “The Cowboy
Cleaner,” will demonstrate live “Effective Stain
Removal” sessions as part of R.R. Street’s
traveling education program for drycleaners. The sessions will
run on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The exhibit hall is scheduled to be open
to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 3 and from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. on Aug. 4.
