Zellers to teach stain removal courses
The Southwest Drycleaners Association will be offering two stain removal courses in November at its Southwest Research Center for Laundry & Drycleaning, located on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
Both courses will be lead by Jane Zellers, the school’s chief instructor. A maximum of 25 students will be allowed for each class, which will include time for lectures, group discussions, demonstrations and hands-on training.
The first class, Stain Removal Course #02-2, is scheduled for Nov. 11-13. Students will meet from 8: 30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the first two days and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the third and final day.
Training on proper stain removal techniques will be outlined, with an emphasis on how dyes, pigments, prints and finishes are all vital concerns to the cleaning process. Students will also learn about the proper tools for stain removal and be able to recognize terms such as wetside, dryside, alkaline and acid.
Tuition is $290 for SDA members, $360 for IFI members and $425 for other students.
From Nov. 13-15, Zellers will offer Advanced Stain Removal Course #02-3. The class will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The class will focus on advanced training for proper stain removal techniques, including gaining a better understanding of fiber content, weaves, garment construction and how to test fiber content by burn testing.
Tuition is $280 for SDA members, $345 for IFI members and $410 for other students.
Enrollment for either class should be completed by Nov. 1. For more information, contact SDA by calling (210) 826-4684.

SDA’s new president begins term
Former Southwest Drycleaners Association President Allan Johnson recently passed the president's gavel to Pat Godo, who will serve the association for the 2002-2003 term.
Godo, a lifelong resident of Dallas, is president of Godo & Godo, Inc., which does business under the heading of Avon Cleaners, purchased by Godo and her husband, Karoly, in 1969. At the time, Godo worked as comptroller at the Dallas Plant of American Bakeries, but she decided to work full time at Avon to help with its expansion plans in 1982.
In 1989, the Godos, along with their son, Stacy, purchased the Daniel Cleaning Company, doubling their capacity to clean.
When her husband passed away in 1993, Godo took over his seat on SDA’s board of directors.
Since then, Avon Cleaners expanded again in 1997 when the Godo family bought Fishburn Cleaning, a 100-year-old family organization. Godo’s son Stacy and his wife, Michelle, are currently involved in the daily operations of the plants.
In addition to her duties as SDA president, Godo serves as the treasurer of the Fabricare Foundation and has been active with the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission’s Small Business Committee. She has a business degree in administration from North Texas State and has two grandchildren, Karoly and Callie.
