PDCA Expo 2002 ready to roll on Sept. 21-22 in Atlantic City
Though Atlantic City is widely known for its gambling casinos, drycleaners will head to the New Jersey city for an entirely different reason on Sept. 21 and 22: the Drycleaning and Laundry Expo 2002 sponsored by the Pennsylvania and Delaware Cleaners Association.
PDCA plans to make the event a sure bet by offering a packed exhibit hall at the Atlantic City Convention Hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The weekend will also be highlighted by educational seminars, including a slate of sessions scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. IFI CEO Bill Fisher will kick things off with a discussion of “The Way I See the Industry.”
He will be followed by nationally-known speaker Jan Hargrave, who will present “Actions Speak Louder Than Words.” Hargrave, an international consultant who has appeared on television shows hosted by Montel Williams, Maury Povich, Ricki Lake and has been a contributing author to the New York Post, Cosmopolitan Magazine and Seventeen, will reveal how to determine what an employee, customer or salesperson is really saying with their body language. She will show how interpreting body language can give a person an advantage during social interaction.
On Sunday, PDCA will also present educational seminars from 9 to 11 a.m., starting with “Ten Commandments, Seven Deadly Sins” by Mike Achin, regional sales manager for the Laidlaw Corporation. He will offer practical information on how to achieve the best results of stain removal.
Afterward, consultant Darcy Moen will show the audience some creative and innovative ways to make their businesses grow. Moen, who writes a column for the Canadian magazine Fabricare, retired at a very young age following a successful career in drycleaning.
The final program of the weekend will be presented by Abe Cho of Satec, who will speak in Korean on the keys to success in the drycleaning industry.
PDCA will also host a free welcome reception for attendees on Friday evening at 6 p.m. at the Sheraton Atlantic City Hotel and a President’s reception the following evening at 5:30 p.m. that will feature hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and a jazz combo playing atmosphere music.
Full registration packages, which include admission to all of the weekend’s educational programs and the President’s reception for $45 per person.
A room rate of $149 per night for single or double occupancy on Friday only has been reserved at the Sheraton Atlantic City Hotel for those who call (800) 325-3535 and mention Expo 2002. The Saturday night rooms are sold out.
Other hotel rooms in the area are available, including the Holiday Inn Boardwalk which offers a rate of $99 per night from Sunday to Thursday and $179 per night on Friday and Saturday. The phone number is (800) 548-3030. The Atlantic Palace, (800) 527-8483, charges $109 per night from Sunday through Thursday and $159 per night on Friday and Saturdays.
