Art of Stain Removal to be taught at SDA school in TX
Some light will be shed on the tricky trade of stain removal on garments when the Southwest Drycleaners Association presents two courses on the subject in November.
Both classes will be held at Southwest Research Center for Laundry & Drycleaning on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
The first course will take place from Nov. 11-13 and meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first two days, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the third.
Class instructor Jane Zellers will bring her years of industry expertise to the classroom. Students will learn how dyes, pigments, prints and finishes are all vital to the cleaning process and will understand the proper use of stain removal tools used on a daily basis. Terms such as wetside, dryside, alkaline and acid will be covered.
Cost for the course is $290 for SDA members, $360 for other IFI members, and $425 for non-members.
The second course, set for Nov. 13-15, will focus on “Advanced Stain Removal.” The class will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday; 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday; and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Designed for more experienced drycleaners, the course will offer a better understanding of fiber content, weaves, garment construction and how to test fiber garment by burn testing. There will also be hands-on training using bleaches and digester.
The advanced course costs $280 for SDA members, $345 for other IFI members, and $410 for non-members.
Class size is limited so early registration is recommended. For information, call (210) 826-6423.
