Lubbock school closes out year with two
spotting courses
Drycleaners wishing to attend a spotting
class at the International Textile Center on the campus of
Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, will have two more
opportunities before the end of the year.
The Southwest
Drycleaners Association will
offer a beginning course on spotting from Nov. 11-13 and an
advance spotting course from Nov. 13-15.
Both classes will be taught by school
instructor Jane Zellers and are limited to a maximum size of 25
students.
Class time is divided between lecture,
group discussion, demonstrations and hands-on training.
The beginning course will meet from 8:30
to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on
Wednesday.
Students will acquire training on proper
stain removal techniques, learning how dyes, pigments, prints
and finishes are all integral to the drycleaning process.
Attendees will also learn to recognize terms such as wetside,
dryside, alkaline and acid, and understand the proper use of
the tools used on a daily basis.
Tuition for the course is $290 for SDA
members and $360 for other IFI members. Non-members pay $425.
The advanced stain removal course will
meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
on Thursday, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Students will learn about proper stain
removal techniques for the advanced drycleaner, gaining a
better understanding of fiber content, weaves, garment
construction and how to test fiber content by burn testing. In
addition to reviewing some of the topics from the first class,
attendees will also be given hands-on training using bleaches
and digester.
Tuition is $280 for SDA members and $345
for other IFI members. Non-members pay $410.
SDA has secured a discounted room rate at
the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Lubbock for out-of-town
guests needing accommodations. The cost is $52 plus tax per
night for single occupancy; an extra $5 will be charged for
each addition occupant in the room per night, not to exceed
four.
For more information, call the SDA office
at (210) 826-6423 or visit the association’s web site at
