IFI announces 2003 course schedule
The International Fabricare Institute has
released its 2003 schedule for its drycleaning courses to be
held at IFI headquarters in Silver Spring, MD.
IFI’s resident course, which is
accredited through the Maryland Higher Education Commission, is
offered in two phases. The one-week Introductory to Drycleaning
course is designed to help individuals new to the industry and
plant employees and owners/managers with less than one year of
experience.
The basics covered in the first phase of
the course include: fibers and fabrics; work flow; principles
of the drycleaning process; assembly and invoicing; the
drycleaning machine; cleaning and drying cycles; elementary
stain removal; and finishing procedures for pants, coats and
skirts.
For the first time, two sessions of the
introductory course will be taught in Korean, in addition to
four sessions in English. Instruction manuals will be
offered in both languages, as well.
Class dates include: Feb. 24-28; April
7-11 (in Korean); April 28-May 2; July 14-18; August 25-29 (in
Korean); and October 20-24. Tuition is $450 for IFI members and
$695 for non-members.
Additionally, IFI will be offering a
two-week Advanced Drycleaning class tailored for individuals
who have completed the first course or employees and
owners/managers with more than one year of production
experience.
The advanced course will cover a variety
of topics, including: specialty fabrics and fiber
identification; advanced stain removal procedures and bleaches;
finishing blouses, dresses, ties, all-weather coats, pleats,
pile fabrics, silk and rayons; wetcleaning; troubleshooting the
drycleaning system; regulations and care labeling; customer
service; business management; plant layout and work flow; and
solvents, detergents, moisture, filtration and distillation for
petroleum and perchloroethylene.
Class dates in 2003 for the two-week
course are: March 3-14; May 5-16; July 21-August 1; and October
27-November 7. Tuition is $900 for IFI members and $1,390 for
non-members.
Both the introductory and advanced courses
may be taken separately, as well as in conjunction. Tuition for
the full three-week General Drycleaning Course is $1,250 for
IFI members and $1,995 for non-members.
