Solvent information
WOODBURY, NY — Rynex has produced new informational literature that provides user testimonials, answers to frequently asked questions, the results of a soil removal test that compares Rynex to perc and a comparison chart on the cleaning effect of alternative solvents.
Information is also provided on the Rynex formulation, its cost and production benefits, cleaning features, independent evaluation and environmental status.
The Rynex soil removal test compares perc and Rynex on a variety of stains, including dirty motor oil, mineral oil, blood, milk, ink, wine and coffee.
The comparison of technical data on alternative solvents includes the composition, boiling point and flashpoint range, vapor pressure, Kb V-solvency, viscosity, NFPA classification and other facts.
Rynex chief executive officer William Hayday said he believes “once people see the results of our comparison studies and review the facts about Rynex, they will see that Rynex is an environmentally friendly, Class IIIB solvent that safely cleans a wide variety of garment fabrics as good as or better than perc and other alternative solvents.” He added that Rynex also removes more stains during normal cycling, which means less pre- and post-spotting are needed.

Parts catalog
Minneapolis, MN — PROS Parts has announced the availability of its 2003 parts catalog. The new catalog has grown from 204 pages in the 2001 edition to over 264 pages filled with photos and descriptions of parts.
The catalog features parts not only for all drycleaning machinery made but also for other select equipment found in typical drycleaning plants, such as boilers, dryers, washers, conveyors, and finishing equipment.
The catalog will be mailed to all distributors and service companies that have done business with PROS. It will also be mailed free to any new distributors, service companies, or drycleaning plants upon request.

Pants toppers
HOFFMAN.jpg
BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Hoffman/New Yorker has introduced three new models of pants topper tensioning finishers that can be used to finish khakis, pleated pants and jeans.
The Topmaster was designed for the traditional drycleaning plant with an operator working with the machine and a legger/utility press when a center crease is required or as a stand-alone for non-crease khaki style garments.
Unskilled labor can be quickly trained on the units. Ten adjustable programs are available to handle various garment styles and fabrics.
Movable pleat paddles with 90° action and adjustable pressure control assure hard pressing of pleated areas. Extra long pleat paddles that extend below the pocket eliminate double creasing of the pleat and front area.
A photocell measure pants length and activates the cuff clamp while the operator is setting the pleat area; total dressing time is less than 15 seconds.
The units are equipped with a 1 HP blower motor that delivers more than 600 CFM. Adjustable rotating cuff clamps let the operator flat press any non-crease pant or slack. A pedal controlled pre-steam switch relaxes fibers to make it easier to smooth out the pleat area and restretch pant legs.

Invoice splitting feature
DRAPER, UT — SPOT2000’s intelligent invoicing splitting feature allows a clerk to begin marking in garments immediately without taking the time to presort orders first.
On its most basic level, SPOT2000 creates multiple invoices split automatically across departments, number of pieces per ticket and promised dates while the customer receives one consolidated claim check.
Various options are available for using intelligent invoice splitting during a quick receive and during a detailed mark-in.
The feature can also be completely disabled. For times when intelligent invoice splitting is not practical, there is a manual “Split” button. When “Split” is used, intelligent invoice splitting is disabled for the remainder of the order. The clerk can continue manually splitting invoices for the same customer using the “Split” button without starting a new ticket each time.
For specialized operations, intelligent invoice splitting can be configured to split based on slot occupancy. For an automated conveyor system, this can be a space-saving option.
Westgate Software has more than 3,000 customers in over 10 countries and has provided software and systems to the drycleaning industry for over 10 years.

E-mail marketing
NEW YORK, NY — NCA has initiated an e-mail marketing program that lets cleaners communicate directly with customers by e-mail. NCA develops and writes material which the cleaner then sends to customers. The program is designed to let non-computer savvy cleaners take advantage of the power of internet to promote their businesses and retain customers. The association said that using the program takes only a half-hour a week of a cleaner’s time.

High-flash hydrocarbon machines
NORTHVALE, NJ — Multimatic Corp. has introduced its HC series of drycleaning machines for use with high flash-point hydrocarbons and other alternative solvents.
The HC series incorporates many features and advances that enable the machines to produce

excellent results with delicate fabrics as well as heavily soiled garment and leathers.
The entire drum housing, drive mechanism, recovery head and base tank of the HC machines are mounted on four heavy-duty suspension springs within the main chassis. This, combined with a low center of gravity, reduces vibration and dynamic floor loading, eliminating the need for special fittings to hold the machine down.
The machines generate a 421g force at full extract. An inverter-controlled drive assures gradual acceleration and deceleration with the load distributed evenly.
High extraction speeds and high volume air circulation combine to reduce total cycle time. At the end of the cycle, solvent retention is about 17 percent. Drying under vacuum uses lower temperatures, which are safe for fabrics, and also less energy.
A circular recovery section with a high velocity van and high efficiency filtration system make the HC machines economical to operate. Multimatic said solvent consumption averages about 2 percent by weight, solvent to garment.
The operator selects the garment classification  on the push-button control panel. For safety, the machines will not operate until the required vacuum for both washing and drying is attained. Two independent pressure switches monitor the pressure within the machine and fail-safe cutout switches shut the machine down if any system fails.
With a small footprint, the HC machines can be installed where space is a premium. The machines are available in load capacities of 35, 50 and 70 pounds.
