ABC’s Stossel to headline
NCA show
Stossel will speak on “The Media and
the Environment” and take questions from the audience.
He has been with the ABC newsmagazine
20/20 since 1981 and began doing primetime specials in 1994.
Stossel’s first special, “Are We Scaring Ourselves
To Death?,” examined exaggerated fears over risks such as
crime and pollution. It was followed by “The Blame
Game,” which looked at Americans’ growing tendency
to blame their misfortunes on others.
In his “Give Me a Break”
segments for “20/20,” Stossel takes skeptical looks
at people who want to censor cartoons, regulate flagpoles, and
have Congress rule on what prices are “fair.”
Stossel has received 19 Emmy Awards and
has been honored five times for excellence in consumer
reporting by the National Press Club. Among his other awards
are the George Polk Award for Outstanding Local Reporting and
the George Foster Peabody Award.
Other educational sessions during the show
will cover routes, marketing, problem garments, and an
environmental regulatory update. The seminars will be presented
between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The exhibits will be open from 10 a.m. to
6 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission will be free.
Several Secaucus hotels within walking
distance of the convention center have rooms available for show
attendees. Reservations can be made by calling the hotels
