New officers announced at IDLA’s annual meeting
At its annual meeting held at the Valle Vista Golf and Conference Center in Greenwood, IN, the Indiana Drycleaning and Laundry Association elected its new officers and board of directors for 2003.
Debbie Barnett passed the association's presidential gavel into the hands of Roman Nalley of Reeder’s Cleaners & Laundry in Clarksville, IN.
Other new officers elected included: Vice President James E. Garner of James the Cleaner in Floyd Knobbs; Secretary Tony Milto of Milto’s Cleaners in Greenwood; and Treasurer Joel Updike of Betty Brite Cleaners in Ft. Wayne.
Elected to the association’s board of directors were: Jodi Curry from Pair-A-Dice Cleaners in Rising Sun; Tim Day of Classic Cleaners in Indianapolis; James Dortch of Mascari Cleaners in Greenwood; and Gary Maloney of Nu Yale in Jeffersonville.
During the meeting, IDLA also presented its first-ever Rex Beddies Award to honor contributions made to Indiana drycleaners by an individual. Dave Wintz formerly of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management office of CTAP was the recipient.
He was selected for his long-time support of the drycleaning industry and his efforts to help cleaners achieve compliance with the National Emissions Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants and Title V programs for Indiana’s Clean Air Act.
IDLA also announced plans for an upcoming all-day spotting and bleaching seminar on Saturday, March 8.
Mike Achin of the Laidlaw Corporation will teach the program, which will take place at Classic Cleaners in Indianapolis, IN.

Hands-on session will teach stain removal
The International Fabricare Institute and the Southwest Drycleaners Association will work in conjunction to present a hands-on stain removal training seminar on Saturday, January 25, 2003.
It will take place at R.J. Kool Co. at 234 W. 12th Ave. in N. Kansas City, MO, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Following live demonstrations, students will have an opportunity to practice stain removal techniques that reduce the potential for fabric damage and increase customer satisfaction.
Topics to be covered by IFI Instructor Brian Johnson include: fabric characteristics; stain removal agents and procedures; rings and watermarks; and bleaches.
Class fees will be $99 for IFI/SDA members; however additional members need only pay $89 each. All non-members must pay $129 each to attend.
