NCA ushers in the new year with seminars, TexCare ’03
It’s gearing up to be a busy year for the Neighborhood Cleaners Association.
NCA will be offering several one-day courses in the coming months at its New York School of Dry Cleaning, including: Machinery Maintenance on Feb. 9; Wetcleaning on May 4; Advanced Finishing on September 21; and Advanced Spotting on November 2.
The association will also be offering more in-depth courses at its New York school, including a ten-week course on “Principles and Practices of Dry Cleaning” that runs from 7 to 11 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Starting course dates are: April 7; July 7; and September 29.
Tuition is $870 per student. Optional aids include a $40 student notebook and a $40 fabric book.
NCA will also present two four-week courses on “Principles and Practices of Pressing” from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Starting dates are April 8 and September 30.
Tuition is $380 per person, $190 of which must be paid in advance, followed by $50 weekly payments until the cost is paid in full.
Also on the schedule are two “Resident Spotting and Dry Cleaning” courses that will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for five days. The one-week courses are set to begin on February 24 and August 11. Tuition is $665 per student.
Cleaners will have opportunities in the coming months to obtain their New York certification at NCA headquarters.
The two-day courses will include a total of sixteen hours of class time. Class dates are February 23 and March 2.
The two-day courses will also be available in Korean on many dates, including: March 23 and 30; May 18 and 25; July 20 and 27; September 21 and 28; and November 16 and 23.
Also on the horizon is NCA’s TexCare ’03 trade show planned for April 5-6 at the Meadowlands Convention Center in Secaucus, NJ.
This year’s featured speaker is John Stossel of ABC News “20/20” who will discuss “The Media and the Environment” at 10 a.m. on Sunday and take questions from the audience afterward.
Stossel has been with 20/20 since 1981 and began working primetime specials in 1994. He has received 19 Emmy Awards and has been honored fives times for excellency in consumer reporting by the National Press Club.
NCA will offer up several other educational sessions, as well, covering such topics as routes, marketing, problem garments and an environmental regulatory update. The sessions will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Exhibit hours will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission will be free.
