TCATA unveils plans for its April
management conference
The Textile Care Allied Trades Association recently announced its plans for its 2003
Annual Management and Educational Conference.
The event will take place from April 23-26
at the Marriott Laguna Cliffs in Dana Point, CA. Registration
will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23.
Scheduled speakers for this year’s
conference include Mike Marks and Sondra Thiederman, Ph.D.
Marks, who is co-founder of the Indian
River Consulting Group, is an expert on all aspects of
distribution, including channel strategies, supply chain
management and the practical application of real-world
technology. He will discuss ways in which distributors and
manufacturers can remain profitable in the future. His session
will run from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, April 25.
Prior to starting his consulting business,
Marks worked in distribution management for over 20 years,
including stints as executive vice president at Lex Electronics
and director of corporate training at Ducommon.
The second speaker, Thiederman, will focus
her discussion on addressing cross-cultural challenges. She
will speak from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 26.
Thiederman is an author of various books
on the topics of workplace diversity and cross-cultural
business and was also a speaker at the 1994 TCATA convention in
Phoenix, AZ, and the Clean ’97 Show in Las Vegas, NV.
In addition to hosting meetings for board
members, distributors and manufacturers throughout the week,
TCATA will also offer a golf tournament on Thursday, April 24,
followed by a Tournament Awards Luncheon from 1 to 3 p.m. on
the same day.
A Silver Circle Club reception and
luncheon has been scheduled from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on
Saturday, April 26. A closing reception and party will conclude
the conference later that night, running from 7 to 11 p.m.
Rooms will be available to attendees at
the Marriott Laguna Cliffs at a secured rate of $149 per night.

Two-part spotting session set in Stockton
A two-part workshop on “The Art of
Spotting” will take place at Snow Cleaners, Inc., located
at 38 W. Sonora St. in Stockton, CA.
The program will be presented by Bob
Blackburn, the instructor at the California
Cleaners Association’s Northern
California Dry Cleaning School.
The first part will run from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. on Saturday, April 12. It will begin by covering the
basics of spotting, focussing on the use of common and special
spotting agents, bleaches and fabrics.
The workshop will commence on Saturday,
May 10 with an advanced program that runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Students will learn how to study the identification and steps
in removal of stains.
Cost is $75 per person per class for CCA
members and $125 per person per class for non-members.
