NCA springs into action with educational
programs
The Neighborhood
Cleaners Association plans
to greet the warmer months with a full slate of educational
programs and offerings.
At the association’s New York School
of Drycleaning, several one-day courses have been planned in
the coming months.
A one-day wetcleaning seminar will take
place on May 18. It will cover basic wetcleaning techniques,
the use of specialty chemicals, machine programming and
finishing.
Other one-day offerings include a
technical training at the counter course on Sept. 14 and a
finishing course on September 21. The technical training class
will focus on the importance of attitude and knowledge at the
front counter, covering everything from garment inspection to
image to problem solving.
A machinery maintenance seminar is planned
for October 19. It will help students learn how to maintain and
perform minor repairs and part replacement on their equipment.
An advanced spotting and bleaching course
will convene on November 2 and will examine testing, dyes,
fiber content, the use of bleaches and wetcleaning.
All of NCA’s one-day classes will
run for seven hours and costs $150 per member and $225 for
non-members.
NCA will also be offering its in-depth
courses, such as the ten-week program on “Principles and
Practices of Dry Cleaning” that runs from 7 to 11 p.m. on
Monday and Wednesday evenings. Starting course dates are: July
7; and September 29.
Tuition is $870 per student. Optional aids
include a $40 student notebook and a $40 fabric book.
NCA will also present a four-week course
beginning on September 30 that will cover “Principles and
Practices of Pressing” from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings. Tuition is $380 per person.
Also scheduled is a “Five-Day
Intensive Drycleaning and Spotting” course that will
cover the basics of drycleaning, fiber identification, stain
removal, solvent maintenance and filtration. It will run from
July 28 until August 2. Cost is $665 for members.
Cleaners looking for a break from all of
the educational programming may want to consider attending
NCA’s “A Special Night at Shea” scheduled for
Friday, July 25.
Members may purchase baseball tickets for
$45 and witness the New York Mets playing host to the
Cincinnati Reds. Only 250 tickets are available for the event.

NEFA hosts two May training sessions
The North East
Fabricare Association will
be offering two sessions on “Hazard Communi-cation
Training” in the month of May.
The first is planned for Saturday, May 24
in Portland, Maine. The second will take place on Tuesday, May
27 in Providence, Rhode Island.
The cost is $20 per person. Plant
