SDA offers June cleaning course at ITC
A one-week general fabricare course will
be part of the Southwest Drycleaner’s Association summer educational schedule at the
International Textile Center, located on the campus of Texas
Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
The course is equally suited for those who
are new to the drycleaning industry, as well as those who have
been around for many years.
It will take place from June 23-27. Class
times will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Thursday and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Jane Zellers, the chief instructor for the
Southwest Research Center for Laundry & Drycleaning, will
teach basic stain removal and customer service, as well as how
to recognize problem garments before they cause problems.
Other topics to be covered include: fibers
and fabrics; drycleaning technology; proper classification of
garments for quality cleaning and reduced claims; wetcleaning
procedures; finishing/pressing techniques; tips for producing
the “perfect” shirt; understanding work-flow;
proper equipment layout and its role in production; and methods
for productivity and quality.
The one-week course will include classroom
presentations and hands-on training.
No more than 24 students will be allowed
to take the class. Tuition is $395 each for SDA members and
$460 each for other IFI members. Non-members may attend at a
cost of $525 each.
Room rates are available at the nearby
Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Lubbock at a rate of $53 per
night plus taxes. It will cost an additional $5 for each person
if more than one attendee shares a room together. Reservations
must be made by June 9.
A complimentary shuttle is available to
and from the Lubbock International Airport and the Southwest
Research Center.

Big Show 2004
SDA also recently announced plans for its
“Big 2004 Show” planned for March 4-7, 2004 at the
George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX.
Several convention activities have already
been planned, including SDA’s quarterly board of
directors meeting, the annual general membership meeting and a
welcome reception.
A golf tournament will also be scheduled
for Thursday, March 4.
SDA’s headquarters hotel will once
again be the Hyatt Regency Houston, located blocks away from
the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Sales seminar set in Dallas for July 10-11
Seminar attendees can learn techniques for
“Innovative Selling” on July 10-11 in Dallas, TX.
Bill McCormick, founder and president of
Sales & Training Results, will conduct the seminar, which
will be co-sponsored by the Textile Care Allied Trades
Association.
A variety of topics will be covered,
including: listening skills; ideal questions to ask; managing
sales opportunities; handling objections; and selling style and
identification.
