Zellers to teach stain removal
courses at ITC in Lubbock
Removing stubborn stains from garments is
a lot easier if you understand the mechanics of the cleaning
process.
For cleaners in the southwest United
States, there will be a couple of upcoming opportunities to
learn in-depth about stain removal.
The Southwest
Drycleaners Association will
host two courses from November 10-14 at the International
Textile Center, located on the campus of Texas Tech University
in Lubbock, TX.
Jane Zellers will serve as the course
instructor for each. There is a 10-student minimum and a
25-student maximum limit for each class.
Class time will be divided between group
discussions, demonstrations and hands-on training.
The first class will examine proper stain
removal techniques with an emphasis on terms such as wetside,
dryside, alkaline and acid.
Dyes, pigments, prints and finishes will
also be covered, as will the proper use of tools used on a
daily basis.
The class will run from Nov. 10-12. Class
times will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and
8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Tuition is $290 for SDA members and $360
for other IFI members. Non-members pay $425 each.
Also on November 12, Zellers will begin a
course on advanced stain removal.
Students will learn more advanced
cleaning methods and gain a better understanding of fiber
content, weaves, garment construction and how to test fiber
content by burn testing. There will also be hands-on training
with bleaches and digester.
The class will run from November 12-14.
Class times will be 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday; 8:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday; and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The cost is $280 for SDA members, $345 for
other IFI members, and $410 for non-members.
The registration deadline for either class
is October 31.
Hotel rooms at the nearby Holiday Inn Park
Plaza are available for students who need accommodations at a
rate of $60 plus tax per night for occupancy up to four people.
Free shuttle service the airport and the International Textile
Center is provided.
Reservations should also be made by
October 31.
In addition to its class offerings in
Lubbock, SDA will also be co-sponsoring seminars with IFI in
September and October.
A “Customer Service/Problem
Garments” seminar with IFI instructor Lorraine Muir will
take place on September 20 in Oklahoma, OK.
On October 11, Jim Kirby will present a
seminar on “Stain Removal” in Albuquerque, NM.
Both seminars will run from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m.
The cost is $99 per seminar per member;
however each additional member from the same plant pays only
$89 each. Non-members must pay $129 per seminar. The tuition
does include the cost of lunch and materials.
