PDCA, Lehigh Valley Guild offer customer service seminars
The Pennsylvania and Delaware Cleaners Association and the Lehigh Valley Guild have teamed up to offer two upcoming seminars on customer service. The associations have tapped the services of IFI Garment Analyst Chris Allsbrooks to present the first educational sessions.
Allsbrooks, who has a bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising and textile marketing from the University of Maryland, College Park, will offer an animated session on ways to handle even the most difficult and nasty customers.
She will advise counter personnel on how to turn a negative customer service situation into a positive one. After all, dealing with an angry customer properly is the first step in reinforcing their loyalty, which ultimately leads to increased sales for the drycleaning plant.
The first seminar is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Gus’s Crossroads Restaurant on Route 378 in Bethlehem, PA. A second seminar has been tentatively planned to take place in November in the Pittsburgh area.
The cost of each session is set at a $20 flat fee per LVG plant, which means several members from the same cleaning business can attend without increasing the price of admittance.
Non-members also have the option of sending multiple plant employees for no additional charge. The flat fee for non-members plants is $35.
To make reservations or find out additional information, contact Gary DiPasquale of Al’s Cleaners at (610) 258-7288 or call the PDCA office at (215) 830-8495.

Live demo and seminar planned for Oct. 18-19
MidAtlantic cleaners hoping to view a live demonstration of hydrocarbon drycleaning equipment will have the perfect opportunity on the weekend of October 18 and 19.
The event will be offered free to the general public.
R.R. Street and Union Drycleaning Machinery will work together to present live cleaning demonstrations in the showroom of District Cleaners Equipment, located at 4424 Arkansas Avenue in NW Washington, DC.
The program will run from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Attendees can also learn spotting tips from “Cowboy Cleaner” Kenney Slatten, including how to more effectively and easily clean with the environmentally friendly DF-2000 solvent.
Slatten is the founder and president of the Kenney Slatten Training Company and a board member of the Western States Drycleaners and Launderers Association.
Also featured will be live and fully operational hydrocarbon drycleaning machinery from Union.
Cleaners are encouraged to bring in their toughest garments and watch them undergo the entire cleaning process from start to finish.
A light lunch will be provided. For more information, including directions to the event, contact District Cleaners Equipment by calling (202) 723-7616.
