Clean UK exhibition is cancelled
The Clean UK 2004 exhibition, scheduled to take place at Wembley Exhibition Centre in September, has been cancelled.
The Society of Laundry Engineers and Allied Trades (SLEAT), which was sponsoring the exhibition, said the majority of key industry companies had advised that they were unable to participate.
David Hart, secretary of SLEAT, commented: “Sadly, it has recently become apparent that the enthusiasm shown by major exhibitors at the initial meeting in September has not been maintained and the CEM Group have been left with no option other than to cancel the show. The CEM Group has spent a great deal of time and expense promoting Clean UK and the society is indebted to them for all the effort they have made. I do hope that it will be possible that they will be involved in future exhibitions.”
Said Anna Wallis, Clean UK show director,“We are saddened at having to take this difficult decision, but cannot proceed on the basis that Clean UK would not be representative of an ‘industry show’. This decision has not been taken lightly and we would urge the industry to remain positive about future opportunities should the situation change.”
SLEAT and the CEM Group plan to keep the door open should Clean UK return in years to come.
One of the principle interests of the SLEAT is to promote its members’ equipment and services. SLEAT is a founding member of the European Laundry and Dry Cleaning Machinery Manufacturers Organisation (ELMO), which was formed to arrange and maintain an international exhibition cycle in Europe.
The Society is managed by an elected council, the members of which are senior executives of their respective companies. The council is headed by a president, elected by the Council, whose normal term of office is between two to three years. The current president is Tom Elliott of Alex Reid Ltd.
