IFI slates courses slate new year
For drycleaners whose new year’s
resolutions include obtaining more education, the International Fabricare
Institute’s Education Department is ready to help.
IFI has scheduled several sessions of its
one-week introductory drycleaning course throughout 2004 on the
following dates: January 12-16; January 26-30; May 3-7; July
12-16; August 9-13; and October 18-22. The class will be
available in Korean during the weeks of January 12-16 and July
12-16.
The courses will take place at IFI’s
headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.
The introductory class is designed to
teach individuals new to the industry with less than one year
of overall experience.
The course covers: fibers and fabrics;
work flow; principles of the drycleaning process; assembly and
invoicing; the drycleaning machine; cleaning and drying cycles;
elementary stain removal; and finishing procedures for pants,
coats and skirts.
Students who have completed the
introductory course may want to build on that cleaning
knowledge with the two-week advanced course aimed at helping
owners and managers with more than one year of production
experience.
The two-week advanced class covers the
following subjects: speciality fabrics and fiber
identification; advanced stain removal procedures and bleaches;
finishing blouses, dresses, ties, all-weather coats, pleats,
pile fabrics, silks and rayons; wetcleaning; solvents,
detergents, moisture, filtration and distillation for
perchloroethylene and petroleum systems; troubleshooting the
drycleaning system; regulations and care labeling; plant layout
and work flow; customer service; and business management.
Dates for the two-week course include:
February 2-13; May 10-21; July 19-30; August 16-27; and October
25-November 5. The class that meets from July 19-30 will be
available in both English and Korean.
Tuition is $450 for IFI members and $695
for non-members for the one-week introductory course. The
two-week advanced class costs $900 for IFI members and $1,390
for non-members.
Students also have the option of enrolling
in the introductory and advanced classes concurrently. The cost
for enrollment in the full three-week general course is $1,250
for IFI members and $1,995 for non-members.
