PDCA expands seminars and in-plant training program
It may be a cold winter, but the Pennsylvania and Delaware Cleaners Association is hoping to make it a busier one, as well.
The association recently enjoyed so much success at its recent “Customer Service” seminar at the Holiday Inn in Monroeville, PA, that it plans to set up another one in Central Pennsylvania in the near future.
Overall, 74 cleaners representing 20 different cleaning plants showed up on Nov. 13 to hear IFI Garment Analyst Chris Allsbrooks give an animated discussion on how to handle difficult customers from behind the front counter.
In addition to expanding its seminar offerings, PDCA is also working on increasing the educational scope of its in-plant training program.
In an effort to make training more affordable and accessible to its members, the association arranged for professional instructor Lisa Dusak to visit drycleaning plants for one-day or half-day sessions in order to demonstrate general finishing and shirt finishing.
The discounted cost to have Dusak visit a plant is $300 for a full day, and $175 for a half day, plus mileage and hotel expenses if necessary.
Now, PDCA has expanded its in-plant training curriculum to include sessions on stain removal and basic drycleaning, too.
The association’s field representative, Bob McBride, is an experienced drycleaner and consultant who is offering his expert services to PDCA members at a discount.
Like Dusak, he will be available for both one-day or half-day sessions. He will adapt his teachings to fit the individual needs of each company, rather than have a pre-set plan.
For more information on Bob McBride’s schedule and services, contact him directly by calling (412) 327-2297 or e-mail him at: bobmcbrideassoc@aol.com.
For more information on Lisa Dusak’s finishing instructions, contact her at (412) 303-3519 or e-mail lisadusak@stargate.net.
In other PDCA news, the association held its election for new officers on December 7 at the Marriott Hotel, located in Harrisburg, PA.
Garth Eck of Faxon Cleaners in Williamsport, PA, will remain the association’s president.
Other PDCA officers for the coming term include: vice president, Joseph Schmidt of Plaza Country Cleaners in Emmaus, PA; vice president of government affairs, Dale Kaplan of Kaplan’s Careful Cleaners in Camp Hill, PA; treasurer, Stuart Outten of Capitol Cleaners in Dover, DE; and secretary, David Beatty of Murrysville Cleaners in Murrysville, PA.
