MAC plans to break 4-year show drought in DC area
For drycleaners in the Washington, DC, area, it has been a long time since the last industry trade show.
The MidAtlantic Association of Cleaners will change  that by presenting its CleaningExpo Showcase and Auction March 13-14 at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD.
“It’s been four years since there was an exhibit in the region, so CleaningExpo Showcase and Auction really comes at a good time, at a great location, with innovations in live event presentation” said MAC President Gene Moorefield.
Recently, the scope of the show expanded considerably when three associations announced joining MAC in the venture: the Korean-American Drycleaners Association of Greater Washington; the Korean-American Drycleaners Association of Maryland; and the West Virginia Drycleaners and Launderers Association.
“The co-sponsorship of these associations will make a great show that much better by personally getting the word out across the entire region to that many more potential attendees,” Moorefield added.
Buddy Gritz, the association’s treasurer, pointed out that the show is coming a very good time.
“Operators are confronting competitive and environmental requirements from landlords and government, making it essential they find new ways to operate more efficiently and profitably,” he said. “Finding new products and services is an important part of the mix. With interest rates at an all time low and environmental loan funds, acquiring the latest environmentally sensitive technologies is easier than ever. It’s a time and opportunity not to be missed.”
MAC noted that its exhibit showcase is timely for another reason: the new Section 179 tax deduction which now allows small businesses to deduct a maximum of $100,000 up front for annual new capital equipment purchases made through 2005. The old limit was $25,000.
Additionally, the Internal Revenue Service announced that the first-year bonus depreciation deduction on certain capital assets has been increased from 30% to 50% for operating investments acquired and placed in service before January 1, 2005. The bonus depreciation applies to most equipment, machinery, and office furniture.
