IDC names new executive director
TEBBS.jpg
Chris Tebbs of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, will become the new executive director of the International Drycleaners Congress at the organization’s convention in June when Dr. Manfred Wentz will step down from the post after 5 years of service.
Tebbs comes to IDC with a wide range of industry and association knowledge and experience. Most recently he was managing director of the Fabric Care Research Association in the UK. He and his wife, Joyce, moved from the UK to Canada in 2003 to be near children and grandchildren.
He brings to the job his knowledge of the drycleaning and laundering industry, including all practical aspects of textile care from garments through basic processing in the plant. In addition, he has many years of working to further the interests of the industry with government departments, international regulatory agencies and other industry associations.
His industry activities have included service on the International Committee for Drycleaning (CINET); the International Technical Committee for Textile Care (ICTC); the Home Laundering Consultative Committee; the Industry Committee for Health, Safety and Environment; and the Textile Care and Rental Industry Committee for Education.
Tebbs also has a business background that includes financial management and accounting, as well as oversight of association personnel. His professional and personal life are also shaped by his 30 years as a member of the Royal Naval Reserve.
“I have spent my working life trying to help drycleaners and the drycleaning industry and I am very happy to become involved again at this new level,” Tebbs said.
Manfred Wentz, the current IDC executive director said of Tebbs, “Chris Tebbs is an excellent choice for the next IDC executive director. He has the experience and vision to continue the noble mission and goals of IDC.”
“While it is a great honor to serve such an outstanding international organization of visionary industry leaders, it is now time for me to move on,” Wentz added.
He will continue his work on textile care with national and international standard organizations, industry, governmental agencies and North Carolina State University.
“I reached the crossroad were I must initiate a change for the better of IDC and for my own life,’ he added. “I have done what I had in mind when I accepted the position of IDC executive director five years ago: to promote the noble mission and goals of this unique international organization and to move it into the age of electronic communication and documentation.
“This spring, I am celebrating my 65th birthday. After overcoming two major health problems in the last seven years, I want to “smell the roses” in our beautiful backyard in North Carolina, with my family and my friends.”
Wentz said his departure from the IDC executive directorship does not constitute a retirement. “I will continue to speak out for textile care on industry, association and governmental committees,” Wentz said. “As Adjunct Professor in the College of Textiles at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, I will continue to position our industry as an integral part of the total textile chain.”
