Silliman, Gershenson to join IFI board
this month
The International Fabricare Institute will
have two new directors following the elections in Districts 7
and 8 this spring.
David Silliman, a co-owner of
Uptowne Drycleaning in Phoenix, AZ, will succeed Gary Campbell
as District 7 Director and Barry Gershenson, president of
Sterling Cleaners in Los Angeles, will succeed his brother,
Harvey Gershenson, as District 8 Director. Harvey had returned
to IFI board service to finish the term of Perry Pulos, who
suffered a fatal heart attack in 2002.

Silliman, known as “Dryclean
Dave” to many in the industry, has worked in the industry
since the 1960s. In 2003, he received IFI’s Commitment to
Professionalism Meritorious Service Award. As co-owner of
Uptowne Drycleaning, he works in his plant every day and serves
as a free consultant to any cleaner with questions. In order to
handle the most common questions put to him, Silliman created a
web site, www.drycleandave.com.
“I like to help people,”
Silliman said. “This industry has been very good to my
family for three generations, and it feels good to be able to
give something back.”
In the 41 years Barry Gershenson has been
in the drycleaning industry, he’s been no stranger to
service. He was president of the California Cleaners
Association, chairing many committees and serving on its board
for 15 years. Currently, he is a board member and treasurer for
the Greater Los Angeles Dry Cleaner Association, another
association he served as president — this one for 22
years.
“In the past 25 years, volunteer
service has always been a part of my life,” he said.
IFI’s District 7 is comprised of
Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon,
Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
District 8 encompasses California and
Hawaii.
the annual meeting will be held at the
Braintree Hotel in Braintree, MA, beginning at 10"30 a.m.
all IFI members are invited.
In addition to installing new officers and
directors, other business at the meeting will include voting on
the annual audited financial report and any other business that
is brought before the meeting.
