NEFA to host June convention in Rhode Island
Drycleaners in the northeastern United States may not be able to rely on divine intervention to help keep their business afloat in difficult financial times, but they can certainly look to Providence for valuable information.
More specifically, cleaners can make sure they attend the North Eastern Fabricare Association’s biennial Fabricare Image ’04 exhibition and show at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence. The event will be held from June 11-13.
With approximately 100 different companies in attendance, combined with a program chock full of insightful speakers, attendees will have access to every new idea, technological breakthrough and managing strategy that the drycleaning industry has to offer.
The fun begins on Friday when NEFA hosts a board of directors and allied trades welcome reception from 7 to 9 p.m.
On the following morning, Ted Barry of John Barry and Associates, along with a panel of experts, will examine the topic of “Managing for Profit” at 8:30 a.m. Proven methods on how to increase market share and maximize profits will be demonstrated  in this 75-minute program.
Barry will also take a closer look at various other topics, as well, including: creative marketing, cost cutting, making the most of a limited advertising budget and proper management practices that can help add to a company’s bottom line.
After that educational program will be another one on “Managing Your Return Investment — Understanding the Relationship Between Equality, Productivity and Profitability” from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
James J. Beecher, executive vice president and chief financial officer of R.R. Street & Company, Inc., will help attendees better define, measure and manage the key factors that drive a business’s Return-On-Investment (ROI).
Participants will learn how they can initiate positive effects on the ROI of their operations, as well as gain a better understanding of the relationship between process quality, productivity and profitability.
On Sunday morning, IFI Analyst Lorraine Muir will be on hand to give examples of some of the recent garment nightmares that have found their way into the IFI Analysis Lab. Cleaners can learn what not to do when handing some of these potential disasters.
Her presentation, entitled “Quality Cleaning: How Do You Measure Up?”, will run from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
In addition to the educational programming, NEFA will open the exhibit hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The headquarters hotel for this year’s event will be the Westin Providence, located at One Westin Exchange St. Attendees of Fabricare Image ’04 can take advantage of a discounted room rate of $159 nightly. For reservations, call (401) 598-8000.
Registration for the convention can be purchased in individual event packages. The cocktail reception on Friday evening costs $15 and the one on Saturday is $25 per person.
A package that includes admission to all three educational seminars is $30; otherwise, each seminar costs $15 per attendee.
A complete package that includes the cost of all events plus two free drink coupon vouchers runs for $70.
