Zellers to teach one-week course at ITC
school in June
A comprehensive general fabricare course
offered at the International Textile Center is slated to take
place during the week of June 14-18. The school is located on
the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
The one-week course will be equally suited
for newcomers to the drycleaning industry, as well as those who
have cleaned for many years.
Jane Zellers, an industry expert with many
years of experience, will teach the class, which will meet from
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30
to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The instruction format will be divided
between classroom presentations and hands-on practical
application.
A little of everything will be covered,
including: basic customer service; recognizing a “problem
garment” before it becomes one; fibers and fabrics;
drycleaning technology; wetcleaning procedures; finishing and
pressing techniques; understanding work flow; and basic stain
removal.
Additionally, students will get to learn
about the proper classification of garments for quality
cleaning and reducing claims, as well as proper equipment
layout and the crucial role it plays in the production process.
The issue of productivity and quality will
also be explored by Zellers, who will also offer tips on how to
produce the “perfect” shirt.
Tuition is $395 for SDA members
and $460 for other IFI members. Non-members who wish to attend
must pay $525 each.
The cost of lunch every day is included in
that cost.
Space is limited, so cleaners are
recommended to call and register as early as possible. There is
a maximum class size of 24 students.
Those who want to secure hotel
reservations at the nearby Holiday Inn Park Plaza in Lubbock
have until May 31 to take advantage of a special room rate of
$60 plus taxes nightly.
The hotel offers a free shuttle service
for its guests both to and from the ITC school.
SDA will also be offering two additional
fabricare courses in November of this year.
A three-day course on stain removal has
been scheduled from November 8-10. The class will meet from 8:
30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during first two days and then from 8:30
to 11:30 on the final day.
Students will learn how dyes, pigments,
prints and finishes are all important to the cleaning process
and be able to define terms such as wetside, dryside, alkaline
and acids.
It will cost $320 for SDA members and $395
for other IFI members. Everybody else must pay $465 each.
From November 10-12, SDA will present an
advanced stain removal class, as well.
The advanced class will meet from 1:30 to
4:30 p.m. on the first day, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the
second, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the final day.
Zellers will closely examine more advanced
stain removal techniques for cleaners, covering topics such as:
testing fiber content by burn testing; bleaches, digesters and
KOH; and fiber content, weaves and garment construction.
Tuition is $310 for SDA members and $380
for other IFI members. Non-members must pay $450 each.
For more information, or to register or
make hotel reservations, contact SDA by calling (888) 732-2567.
