East Coast school gears up for eight
upcoming courses
The East Coast
School of Dry Cleaning has
announced eight class offerings over the next couple of months,
including two courses in Spanish.
The school, located at 1965 West 9th
Street in Riviera Beach, Florida, will start with a spotting
course on August 13.
Designed to teach both experienced
cleaners and new plant owners and/or employees, the class will
emphasize the most modern spotting techniques and procedures
utilized today with special attention paid to stain
identification, pre-spotting and solvents.
The same course will be available on
August 27 in Spanish.
Those who want to learn more advanced
spotting techniques will have an opportunity at the school on
August 20.
Additionally, a general drycleaning course
is slated for August 14 in English and on August 28 in Spanish.
On August 21, the school will host a
wetcleaning class, as well. In addition to gaining knowledge on
wetcleaning chemical processes and production procedures,
cleaners will be instructed on subjects such as garment
compatibility and sales aspects.
In September, two other courses have been
scheduled. The first will fall on the 17th and cover the topic
of maintenance. One week later, pressing will be the focus of
instruction.
Class instructors for the East Coast
School of Dry Cleaning include the school’s associate
director, Rick Watson, and Dan Eisen, who has garnered over 35
years of industry experience and is a former chief garment
analyst for NCA.
Classes cost $225 per person for students
who register at least one month in advance. Otherwise, the
tuition goes up to $250 per person.

Morrisville plant first to offer
“water only” in NC
Karen and Bill Tomko, owners of H2Only
Cleaning Systems in Morrisville, NC, were recently recognized
by the North Carolina Association of Launderers &
Cleaners for their
innovation in being the first “water only”
drycleaning plant in the state.
“Today, thanks to the Tomkos, we
have a facility in North Carolina that is dedicated to 100%
wetcleaning,” said Martin Young, president of
NCALC. "Technology continues to improve. The failures of
the past usually lead to the successes of the present - another
case of stepping out on faith, another case of meeting
today’s challenge with tomorrow’s
technology.”
When NCALC Executive Director Sto Fox paid
a visit to the plant recently, he touted many of its aspects,
including its well-designed, colorful and airy atmosphere.
He also noted that the Tomkos utilize a
“rolling billboard” delivery vehicle that gets 25
mpg and have state-of-the-art equipment installed on the
premises, including a Miele Professional Wet Cleaner washer and
a Veit shirt finisher.
Additionally, the company also prides
itself in only using fresh, pure water and non-toxic,
biodegradable soaps.
