elected Jan Stevenson-Johnson of Albuquerque, NM, to move up
from her position as Director’s Representative to become
the second vice-president. Other officers are Jim Shepherd of
Ruston, LA, first vice-president, and Harry Badgett of Houston,
TX, sergeant-at-Arms.
New Director’s Representatives
include Keith Kocher of Austin, TX, Darrell Spoon, of Kansas
City, MO, and Joe Mach of Ballwin, MO.
Mark Bartnett of St. Louis, MO, was
appointed as the new IFI District Committee Member (DCM).
Royaltone Academy hosts upcoming leather
classes
With two classes scheduled to take place
later this year and several others already planned in 2005, the
Royaltone Leather Cleaning Academy will deliver plenty of opportunities for
cleaners seeking to hone their leather and suede cleaning
skills.
Located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the school
hosts intensive, two-day courses that emphasize both classroom
instruction and hands-on training by founder Frank Lucenta and
his staff. The training is designed to enable plant owners and
managers to make their businesses more profitable while cutting
down on production costs.
Cleaners hoping to find a session that
meets their busy schedule will have many options. Classes have
been planned this year on the days of September 16 and 17, and
again on November 11 and 12.
There will be additional opportunities
throughout 2005, including: February 3 and 4; April 7 and 8;
June 9 and 10; September 15 and 16; and November 10 and 11.
The itinerary for the course will begin at
8:30 a.m on the first day when students meet in a classroom
environment for two-and-a-half hours.
In addition to viewing a tanning process
slide presentation, attendees will learn about: the
characteristics of suede and leather; identifying skins; suede
and leather peculiarities; the proper garment acceptance
technique; invoice preparation; and spotting techniques for
drycleaning.
Instructors will break down details on
drycleaning charge levels and run times and proper machinery
configurations.
Between noon and 3:30 p.m., the class will
move on to wetcleaning spotting methods and an introduction to
spray finishing, with special attention being paid to spraying
suedes, neutrals and dyes. Instructors will also outline ways
to restore the luster and color of suede and leather garments.
The day will end with a summary and
consultation before a final exam is given.
On day two, the school begins its
in-plant, hands-on session that will last from 8:30 a.m. until
3:30 p.m. and will enable attendees to practice techniques in
supervised production conditions.
Cost for the two-day program is $400 per
person; additional discounts are available for multiple
attendees and those who register early.
The Royaltone Academy is limited to
accepting only seven plant managers or owners per session, so
enrollment is based on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To enroll, call (800) 331-5506 or (918)
622-6677, or e-mail frank@royaltone.com. Once the registration
process is complete, cleaners will receive a class book and
help with securing reservations at a local hotel near the
Suedemate plant that provides free courtesy car service to and
from the airport.
Those who do not wish to travel to
Oklahoma for the training can take advantage of
Royaltone’s correspondence course on suede and leather
cleaning.
The class consists of two learning
segments. The first focuses on the identification and handling
of suede and leather; the second covers how to spot, clean and
finish leather, suede and fur.
The home study program allows cleaners to
learn the cleaning process in the comfort of their own plants.
The cost for enrollment is $200 per person.
