KC cleaner seeks pledges for R&D study towards industry automation
David Porter, a North Kansas City, MO, cleaner who has been working on ideas to improve industry productivity and reduce costs to consumers, is seeking pledges for a fund that would be used to study the feasibility of automating all or parts of the clothes cleaning process.
Porter believes that automation is the key to industry growth. His investigations have led him to the Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute which suggested that a study of the feasibility of automation for the industry could be undertaken for $100,000.
Porter is not asking for the actual funds right now. Instead, he wants industry members to make pledges to contribute to such a fund and, if the total of pledges reaches $100,000, the funds would be collected and a study would commence.
The study could determine where research and development efforts should be directed and how much it would cost to being “significant automation” to the industry. The finished study would be publicized and further funds would be raised to pursue the R&D. That could lead to engineering and manufacturing of equipment needed for automation and revitalization of the industry.
Porter can be reached by phone at Garment Care, (816) 221-1066 or by e-mail davidport@aol.com.
